I've finally isolated the source of the annoying rattle in my xB...it's coming from the passenger side door, and it happens whenever a deep bass note is hit. I'm not sure what exactly is causing the noise, but it's definately in the door panel. Any suggestions?

Do you keep anything in that pocket? Mine used to do that when I had CD jewel cases in there. The pocket is empty now and I don't notice it anymore...

i have found that some radio stations sound extremely bassy for some reason, but my CD plays fine....

i just switch to hear on SSP for that song....

 

i have that problem too. i notice it when im warming up the car and the volume is set at 8 so usually it happens all the time but its more obvious at certain times. my SSP is set on hear. ill ask my dealer about this the next time i get my oil changed. might be awhile though.

 

I don't have anything in the map pockets, and it definately is coming from inside the door frame. I'll try to dynamat that shiznit....aaaah yeah

having the same issue ... a rattle from the passenger door ... i was afraid that i blew the speaker, but its fine .... WTF!

 

hell, us xA gots to be all kinds of different... I notice the rattle, but it's intermittent and it's on the drivers side. I heard it again last night for the first time in at least a couple of weeks and it would stop if I held my hand against the arm rest/button holding platform (does that make sense?) either way, it's as if it resonates to a particular bass note, and I listen to stuff in the "Hear" and "Feel" SSP settings... what piece would be loose enough back there to resonate? I guess I know what I'll be doing on Sunday...

 

yeah...mine used to have the door rattle, but the "dynamizzle curizzled my rattizle fo shizzle my nizzle" (say that 5 tymes fast) LOL

its rubberized insulation especially made for car audio applications, that comes in sticky backed sheets or in a spray. they both work equally well at dampening rattles and annoying sounds...its good to put under your licence plate too, to stop it from rattling.

 

It sound deadenz the car so you don't hear the rattle. I've got the entire xB in dynamat. It's crazy. I've got the speakers in the door and when you open the doors and the hatch, you hear the music laud as a mother. But when you close the doors and the hatch is still open, the entire sound sits inside the car. Its amazing. Now the sound inside the car is perfect and there is no rattle outside and I've got 3600w pushing.

 

dynamat is a little on the expensive side try some fatmat, edead, or second skin and you can get it for a much cheaper price. the only problem i have is that my rear winshield wiper rattles like crazy when the bass hits in my car.

 

yeah i got 12"s in tha trunk, and the bass is killing my rear wiper, but I noticed from outside on the passenger side the metal bends a lil too... so dynamat is coming to the rescue !

 

When I was working on aircraft in the 80's this stuff was called "lead vinyl" because it is a vinyl sheet with lead embedded in it. It changes the natural frequency of whatever it is applied to, which cures buzz problems. We used a lot of this stuff on airliners. It also serves a secondary purpose as sound insulation, lessening sound penetration of sheet metal panels.

Somewhere along the line someone found out that lead vinyl was good for curing buzz problems in car audio, gave it a catchy marketing name, and tripled the price.

Not at all. The lead is completely enclosed.

Lead really isn't a problem unless you ingest it. The chief cause of lead poisoning is children consuming paint chips, even though no paint has had a lead pigment for 30 years. Your car already has about 20 pounds of lead in it!

Just for the record, my passenger door speaker causing the door panel to fart. I am intrigued with this dynomat product, though. Would using this stuff void and warranty stuff having to do with the doors? :?

btw - never heard of anyone EVAR getting hassles in regards to warranty and dynamatted doors.
