Exactly right!!! Our paint is crap period. It doesn't need any help in getting scratched at an automatic car wash.
A touchless car wash scratches paint?

My local JiffyLube has a decent touchless deluxe car wash w/ tri-color polish for only 7 bucks, so usually after a big payday I'll do that.
-MOSTly hand/self-wash though...NOW:
I always see reccomendations to wash in a "Shaded area," but I live @ the beach where shade is a Rarity
Is it THAT harmful to wash in the sun? Of course some sun/waterspots can occur, but if I do an additional rinse it seems to work ok.
-Dishwashing liquid: urban legend? Many have said that this is a great car wash solution, & I guess it makes sense being that it's a solvent used on metals & plastics, but will it damage my car? I know it at least it smells good.

Lastly the Mr.Clean wash kit--I find it to work pretty good, but not as Great as it states...ppl w/b on what your EFFECTIVE routine for washing is,,,& a quick p.s.->any reccomendations on the best Tire cleaner (my road is unpaved ) thx

washing in the sun - just don't wash in the HOT sun. Meaning, if you can wash near sunset (make sure you leave yourself enough time to finish washing! believe me I know ). If you do have to wash in a little hot of the sun (obviously don't wash the car when the sun is hot enough to heat up your body panels to be hot to the touch) , then just do one section at a time, rinse often.

Dishwashing liquid: its designed to clean EVERYTHING, and its very good at that. That's not good for your paint for a few reasons, others can chime in on this one much better than I can, but what I do know is that the first thing it will do is strip the wax off your paint. Repeated use will eventually strip other things, like the oils that are present, and so on and so forth until basically you're left with 100% defenseless paint and well, you've seen those cars...

I wouldn't use dishwashing liquid except very sparingly when you need to strip off wax. Usually though I'm sure its not even necessary... just wait until the wax wears off with normal car washing or just wash and then clay

For those that must wash during the day. Invest in at least a carport. It gives you shade and protects in the event of hail and other stuff. OH and dishsoap is for dishes not auto paint. Use ONLY carwash soap if you give a crap about your car.

I use the Blue Corral stuff from Wally world. It foams up nice and you don't need much plus it's cheap.

I too am in a beach are, with the same color box.

Oh yeah, I hand wash ONLY!!

Tires/Wheels/wells ONLY:

1) I use dishwash soap because it lifts grease/grime from the wheels/tires and I am suave enough not to get any on my paint. It cleans soooooo well, super cheap, and smells like grapefruit.

2) I wash wheels with a Megs ultra soft wheel brush ...it is long enough to clean the inner "dish" of the wheel as well. Tires/wheels/wells are done weekly. After a year my wheels still look brand new...no curb rash or anything!

3) I I use a cheap bristle brsh to scrub the tires. Do not just dress the tires everytime unless you want them to turn brown. Scrub them at least every other time\ you wash.

4) Let dry and dress with your choice of product.
