What kinda oil do you use?
I just got my tC so my oil change is not to soon. I know you get the first 3 free but meh.
I was thinking of using Royal Purple and a Wix filter?????
Any reason not to use synthetic??
Also the oil change light...will it light up at 3000 miles not matter what or will it "know" im using synthetic and go 5-7k before lighting up??

I just use whatever oil the dealer puts in. Personally I think it's a waste of money to use synthetic or royal purple in a stock toyota motor, but that's just me. It's a highly debated topic and people will post studies all day long, but do whatever makes you comfortable. If my motor blows from it, oh well, that's what a warranty is for as I'm not keeping this car more than 6 years.
I use Castrol GTX 5W-20 and change it every 3000 miles. Castrol is the only oil I have used in any of my cars. Now if a synthetic oil is better I don't know but I just don't think that spending $7.00 or $8.00 a quart is worth it to me. but that's just me If you feel comfortable going synthetic then go for it but it just seems a waste of money to me.
castrol is a great synthetic, but mobil 1 is my personaly choice. Oils like valvolene(also napa)/quaker/and penzoil are all wax based and every motor ive taken apart with build up has had one of those oils used it for its life. I use valvolene vr1 racing oil to break in my race motors because its mineral based but i wuld never use it in a street car.
Mobil 1, amsoil, royal purple and castrol are the only thing id ever put into my motor for more then 500miles.
as for a filter k&n has always scored well on independant lab tests and wix is proven to be one f the best (napa filters are made by wix) but i try and always use one from mother (toyota filter)
after i gt my car i changed the oil and filter at just a tick over 2000miles since its still technically break in and replaced it with mbil1 and a toyota filter. Now i change every 5000 as recomended by tyota.
it is crucial that you use to proper weight oil for your motor, and belive it or not some toyota dealers dnt stock the right weight (0-20)
also genuine toyota oil is a partial synthetic thats made by exxon mobil.

Here is a comparison of mobile and amsoil. http://www.stokesabode.com/amsoil/Ne...s/Mobile-1.htm
also here is a side by side compare of regular and synthetic

The point of conventional oil is that it is perfectly fine for a stock 160 hp Toyota built motor and a lot cheaper.
But like I said before, everyone has their preferences. I could easily go on google and find some biased opinion like the link that was posted showing that walmart brand oil is better than X oil.

After Mobil switched to Group III base stock and STILL charged $6.00/qt., I moved away from them and will never use their product again as they decieve customers and refuse to answer straight questions.
PP is $1.99/qt. and is the same Group III base stock as M1. UOA's look great with PP as well.
In most cases, conventional oil is fine. Syn will give a bit more sludge protection, and at less than $15 per oil change (DIY) the extra cost (about $4) for syn is well worth it. Run the syn if you plan on keeping the car for many years. If not, dino oil is fine.
He's supercharged. The engine runs hotter so the 40 is for extra protection.
I'd personally stick with 5w-30 if I was boosted...
The point of conventional oil is that between 0 and 5000 miles there's almost no difference in performance between synthetic and conventional. If you're going to do early oil changes at around 3.5 to 4.5k miles, may as well use conventional oil. Costs less.. uses fewer resources to make.
