ok, I went to christian school, and church like 3 times a week until i was 16.
to call yourself a christian requires very little, but to call yourself a certain denomination of christianity can require either few prereqs like methodists or alot of pre-reqs (like catholics & mormons(which are christian too))

the bare minimum to be a christian: accept jesus as the son of god, who died for your sins and rose to heaven on the third day.

that's it.
most some like to tack on: believe 100% in the bible too.

Can you be a married catholic priest or bishop? No. Being married bars you from being a priest. period. Using birth control mean's you don't practice catholicism. Now, you can arguably be a catholic and have an abortion. By confessing sins directly afterward, telling god it was a single fall from grace you won't do again. But commiting an ongoing sin you don't repent for. well that's the reason you can't be ___ and christian. Absolving all your sins you can be forgiven, denying some and never repenting for them, you can not.
I was baptized, I did my 2 years of Evangelic studies and got my Cresima (dunno the word in english), I went to a Catholic school run by nuns, I go to Chruch, I pray every night, I take his body and blood. HENCE I AM A ROMAN CATHOLIC

And I would certainly hope a woman isn't raped multiple times and has abortions because of it multiple times.

how are you a catholic?
Do you believe that any form of birth control is ok?
If you do, sorry hun you're not catholic. period. You may want to be, and if you're spouting italian heritage as a big deal for you, then you probably feel like you should.
but you're not. you're a christian, and seemingly don't adhere to any denomination.[/quote]

you are what you are baptized as. i'm assuming claudia was baptized catholic and went to catholic church so she is a catholic, just not a devout catholic. sounds like she thinks for herself. i was baptized greek orthodox and went to greek orthodox church. i say i'm greek when in fact i'm more norweigen because my mother is 100% norweigen and my dad is part greek, part italian, german and so on.

anyway, religions are so full of bs. you should not follow their beliefs because their beliefs themselves have constantly changed to accept the status quo. remember when the earth was the center of the universe and the world was flat? speaking against those teaching was heiracy because the bible said so. dinosaurs, i mean, jesus horses, those never existed no matter how many fossils we find.

i remember sitting in sunday school learning about inter-religious relations as a greek orthodox. it said stuff like "you can be friends with non-christian's, but don't yoke with them" as in don't work, do bussiness or marry outside of your religion. what a load of horse crap. i couldn't believe that a religion centered around peace and love would condemn tolerance and co-existance.

also. take a look at history. religion has been at the center of every single conflict around the world. stupid intolerant, doctrine following zealots are the reason why there are so many wars going on.

all religions originated from a time of conflict and instability when the people would make up stupid stories, myths and supernatural beings to calm people down and explain phenonmenon that they couldn't understand. then they realized how much control they had over the ignorant masses. the lord is a sheppard, and you are a freaking sheep. remember, "baaaah" means "no" but that won't stop him.

people who follow religious doctrines to a fault are grade a morons. "but the bible says", why don't you just quote mother goose you moron, the basis of both stories are the fairy tales.

they are moral compasses, they guide us, but not to true north, you need to use reason to find the right path. stop telling us what your book of stories says because if it is true, us "sinners" will pay in the end. take a quote from your book and judge not les ye be judged and let he who is without the first sin cast the first stone.

you bible beaters don't like following your book when it isn't conducive to your will are you?

If she makes the choice to abort because (insert ANY reason here), I am in full support. Yes, even for something as shallow as diminishing her beauty.

We have WAY to many people on this Earth, WAY too many people starving in second and third world nations, not to mention this nation right here. I will never understand why so many breeders insist that a woman losses her choice to do with her body what she wishes. If you don’t want an abortion, don’t get one. But don’t impose your morality onto others who do not share in your religious indoctrination.

Well, 95% of the time this topic comes up, religion gets tossed into the mix. Very similar to this thread actually...hmmm.

So overburdening the Earth and destroying what god (according to most christians, a work of god) created is better?

By that logic, why don't we go ahead and gas all the old folks in nursing homes? They aren't contributing anything anymore. They just lay around and use up our valuable resources. Should we impose forced sterilization? After all, if it's good for the planet that we abort millions of babies every year, than it must be bad for the planet when people do have a baby.

I went to a baptist christian school through 11th grade, I prayed everynight, I was baptized, I went to church every sunday morning, evening, wednesday nights...but I don't follow all those rules(like you don't follow catholicism, and can't be absolved of the sin because you are in denial of it and continue using it everyday), and don't believe in the bible, jesus or god hence i am an atheist.

seriously have you heard of Luigi Cascioli?
went to seminary school, did more things catholic than most think possible. Is an atheist because of his views. You're upbringing, where you are from, and how your parents think does not mean you are a catholic. it's your beliefs. and if a denomination says you have to adhere to these rules to call yourself a follower and you don't, you aren't one.

Can I call myself black, because I feel like it? Because i dress like louis farrakan, or spend most of my doing all things african? no.

There are MILLIONS of unwanted babies already filling the Earth. Why keep making more? Millions to adopt, yet no one is adopting them...hmmm.

What not take care of what we already have?

why are you posting, if you have no reading comprehension then? It makes perfect sense what I wrote. look, just go ask your priest on sunday, if you taking birth control pills everyday and believing in abortions, for whatever reason, allows you to be catholic. he'll answer the same way i did.

people look at me like i'm crazy when i say my dad is african-american, but he is. he may be white, but he was born on a us air force base in libya.

anyway, can you pretend to be a woman, get pregnant and raise a child? no, so you can't tell them what they have to do.

anyway, your imaginary friend, god might be able to tell you how to live your life, but you have no right to tell others to live by his doctrines.

Just because there are millions of unwanted children in the world doesn't make it ok to kill an innocent baby. The logic just doesn't work.

So all of this is coming from a guy who flaunts using drugs such as acid and far worst stuff, who needs to argue with everyone about everything, who cannot make a valid statement withough putting SOMEONE down?

Good luck cookie I know over 3 languages inside out, try your futile unfounded insults on someone else.

I'm done here. Unless of course you are God then please do judge me. If not, go take a look in the mirror and point the finger in that direction.

I can tell you one reason, as a parent I'll say, I don't want a child that isn't mine. I want one that is part of me, and if I couldn't have a child that wasn't my blood, I would choose to not have that child. I take pride in that my child looks like me and is apart of me.

and honestly if I raised 2 children from birth and one wasn't my blood, i may not feel the same. I don't know if i could love another child 100% as much as my own.
Some people don't share that view openly, i admit.

I still say that the debate about abortion goes much deeper than the simple 'right' or 'wrong' of the act. The bigger consideration in my mind is whether or not we can allow the government to make these kind of choices for us...and if they do, are they applying a religious/moral standard to all of society? George W. Bush made it very clear the he was a 'christian' man who was morally and religiously opposed to abortion (as it served him during election times), yet he has no problem sending tens of thousands of men and women to their potential deaths in Iraq- simply for the sake of securing an oil market for Big business. The idea of asserting one group's religious/moral beliefs over all of society is in direct violation of American freedom, and many aspects of our constitution.

I think its sad that people spend so much time energy and resources towards battling abortion just on principle- I think if people put their efforts toward proving that an unborn child is a concious and/or sentient being, then their arguments would have much more weight on society as a whole. Just screaming about how 'immoral' and act it is, or about 'god' or 'jesus', does as much to turn away alot of America as it does to get support. Most all opposition to abortion is done on solely on moral/religious grounds- and this, I believe, automatically excludes and alienates a good portion of the population who might otherwise agree.

I personally am against abortion, but I'm also against banning it on religious principles. If we do this, we will legitimize all kinds of insanity that already exists in this country- and likely will set a precedent for forcing all kinds of religious/moral standards onto people's lives.
No offense intended to anyone's religion at all....but please keep in mind that the 'Christian-when-it-serves-my-purposes' mentality in America, if left unchecked, could become just as fanatically insane as any other religious group in the world.
History shows that there is no end to the atrocities that people will carry out when they feel that they have moral superiority over others.

Am I opposed to abortion? Yes.
Is it my place to force others to follow my beliefs? Not in America.

If you want to ban abortion, do it scientifically. Prove or at least give evidence of conciousness/sentience in an unborn fetus. If you can prove that an unborn fetus is concious/sentient, even at very early stages of development- I gaurantee that you could convince society that it is murder. Convince people to be against it based on facts, not religion- otherwise your opposition consists only of the religious, and is by nature exclusive of the rest of society- automatically limiting the numbers of people in your support.

My beliefs tell me that god can and WILL judge us all by our choices and actions, but my beliefs also tell me that Mankind's control over our choices and actions- does very little to save or hinder any of us.

Sorry for the hour long post. I hope somebody actually reads this, and I'm curious to see if anyone at all agrees with me.
