Abortion (debate)
F@ck yeah it should be legal. Until birth the spawn fits every definition of a physical parasite. After birth it fits the definition of a monetary and social parasite, well until 18 y/o at least...
Oh and as far as God is concerned... "Separation of church and state" Keep your god out of my laws.

Well everybody knows that these single-topic debates always turn into something else.. we always end up talking about other things.. but it's all in a sense related and I think it's somewhat educational. And it shows other points of views.. so keep it coming.

And why not threads? Because mods like to lock threads that change topics... but that's a really good point! I'm gonna use that in a quote.
Come back to the TJ thread, PCFL!
I'll drop in from time to time, but it moves way too fast for me to keep up continually and work at the same time.
BTW, in certain parts of the country, like Cali for instance, "TJ" is short for Tiajuana. So it took me a sec there to figure out what you were talking about.

lol.. can you people please listen to what I am trying to say??
screw the bible, screw jesus, screw every religion, screw every moral and every law and every story that man has created. screw all of our beliefs and everything that anyone has ever said about the topic. screw trying to catch me making contradictions, screw everything except for this one thing. screw christianity, screw atheism, screw polytheism, screw devil worship and most importantly screw dragons...
now let's go throught this step by step, and tell me when I'm wrong.
1) this universe at some point must have had an origin. At some point in time it must have started. Hopefully there are no contradicitons with this statement.
2) Somehow this universe was created. This is basically unarguable also. It was created (by god, by magic, exactly as the bible says, through quantum physics, dragons made it, however you want to say it, it was done in some way).
3) If you still buy those two things that I said, you basically have two options. You either believe God exists and created the universe, or you believe that there is some logical explanations that we cannot think of.
Maybe because we cannot think of answers to questions like these we invented a God. That's fair enough, but I just feel that something had to have done it, and that something for me is God. It makes zero sense for space to be created by itself, and for particles to be created by itself (although particle creation has been seen in quatum physics).
You people always think I believe in god because of what the bible said or what my church says, but my beliefs, although in faith, are rooted in these physical traits.
I agree, there is no proof either way of the existence or nonexistence of god. Otherwise we would clearly not be discussing anything. But to think that there is some scientific answer to a God, is extremely minimal, and being I play probability, I will therefore believe in god. I don't think you people realize the stroke of luck that we have to be alive today on this earth out of this entire universe. To deny that there is any intervention seems so foolish. There are so many questions that atheists have to answer for me to even consider their beliefs. How did this world start? Why are we here? How did life start? What happens when it's over? etc, etc.
And I can take the easy way out by saying there is a god, and you can take the easy way out by saying the meanings dont matter.
Either way there is no proof, but like I said before I just think the probability of a god is far more than no god, which is why I believe.

I ask again.... where did God come from?
And I say again.. people will never agree to disagree on any highly debateable or questionable topic (ie, abortion or the existance of God).. so try not to get your (and I'm not saying you Guitar, saying general public) panties in a wad when someone strikes atcha. It's just cause they think something different and can't undertsand your point of view at all. Or completely.
I do it too.
like I said a few times, I don't know for sure whether there is or isn't a God. All I am saying is I believe.
And yes any of these topics are highly disagreed upon. It's all good, we're just sharing thoughts here. What someone else wants to believe is what they want to believe, and that is fine with me.
As for you I think you should think to your self, do I believe in science or do I believe in God? or are you one of those rediculous people who reject both and believe in nothing. I don't see how I could go through life so passively without choosing something. I mean sure I have doubts at times, but it is always reassured by certain questions and happenings that occur in my life.

2) Somehow this universe was created.

I hurt myself thinking about that one...

I believe in science.. so it would make perfect sense for me to say I don't know whether or not to believe He exists. Science has not proven His existance, I won't tell others He exists. But at the same time I don't deny it. It's just the way my mind works is all. I believe in science. And when science can prove that God is indeed real and not just some story in a book, then maybe.. maybe I will believe in God. (Then of course.. it wouldn't be believing because He would be proven and not something to believe in... oh well.)
tons of different theories and tons of different gods, lol..
I love how everyone is like prove that there is a god.
I can't do it. And you can't prove how the universe (when I say universe I mean everything, although I guess a universe is only part of the everything) was created.
So I guess there's no sense in any of us arguing, but I think everyone makes some good points...
oh well, whats the next topic we're gonna go on to? lol..

Here's another way it can be said, the universe expanded and then god was made from that. There you go, a way to answer my question where your god came from, and a way for you to believe he exists. Seems stupid huh? I think you are just substituting a logical explanation for "god". Why do you need all the answer? I can see wanting it, but saying "If i don't know how it all works right this second, I'm going to believe in make-believe deities, because they have magic, and magic can be the answer to all things." Many thousands of year will go by, and those men of the future will be much more knowledgable then us about the universe, and yet they will not know everything that has ever occured away from their eyes.
any of your questions though, I can answer, now will you really come over to the dark side?
How did this world start? it was one of many pieces of the big bang, over billions of years, it settled into orbit around our sun, rounded itself through gravitation. Elements such as ammonia and methane were part of our early atmosphere, and then those were broken down into hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen.
Why are we here? We were born, our parents were born, so were theirs. through an evolution of a few billion years, there are humans as you know it, another 2-3 billion years, just think how different the beings that evolved from us will be. that is why.
Must you have some grand answer like "you will save our planet single handely with your novel about world peace" or an answer like so many other people get "You have been put on this planet to become an alcoholic, and to make philip morris more money through smoking and eating crackers"
How did life start? electricity and proteins/amino acids probably.
What happens when it's over? You die. your body breaks down through the nitrogen process.
why wouldn't those answers be enough for you really? no afterlife with special powers? No great reason why you are on this planet? Honestly, what if those are the only answers. Would you be content?

There is evidence of things in this universe which can only be created by a giant expanse of space. Therefore the so called 'big bag' must have occurred at some point. And at some time between then and now, this planet and all its life as we know it was created.
Heres a picture where every war, famine, and birth in the entire history of our earth has occurred. Just one small spec in the vastness of space. Its amazing when from far away how simple and less complex this all seems. The complexity of our lives is no more complex than everything around us, perfect harmony...cause and effect.
