Dale Jr Leaveing DEI...
don't you see him leaving DEI as a great reason to see it as NOT a sport?
it's about money, he wants a championship and he knows the only way to do that is by having more money dumped into a race car, because his driving skill isn't near enough to win a race, like it would be, if it were a sport.

If the equipment isn't up to par with the remainder of the competitors you will not win. I agree that the fastest car doesn't always win, neither does the best driver, but if you don't have the equipment your shot no matter how much talent you have. Hmm, Jr doesn't have enough driving skills to win a race? How about 22 Busch wins, 2 Championships, 17 Cup victories, and a All Star Win. Not to mention the non points victories at Daytona. Even the NASCAR drivers that have never won a race still have more talent behind the wheel of a car than we do. If Jr leaving DEI because of money makes NASCAR not a sport that means Major League Baseball is no longer a sport, if you are from Seattle you should realize this just as much as anyone with Alex Rodriguez or Payrod as I like to call him auctioning himself off to the highest bidder.

It's not about "people's equipment being up to par", it's about these half dozen teams that have more money than god, like dupont, that are simply a bottomless pit for money. It's not even close to fair, which is really what "sport" should be. Most people who watch nascar are idiots and think they're watching something remotely fair and that "jeff gordon is probably the best driver, that's why he wins so much".
It's like when the yankees play the brewers. Is that fair? is it sporting? is it even watchable to see a team with a 20mil payroll to go against a team with a 250 mil payroll? Who do you blame, the brewers(ok that may the extreme example, but still) for "not being up to par" or newyork which makes it grossly unfair by being able to pay one guy more than an entire team?
You wouldn't get into a drag race with someone who's got twice the horsepower in the same car you do, and actually think that's "sporting" or "fair" right?
I have read every article on this available, I've read Jr's blogs, read the transcripts, watched the videos he's posted on his sites. I follow him on a regular basis, I know how he is, I've had him go through one of his speedway cars with me in the garage here in Atlanta during a test. I know what you mean Dave, when you watch the events you see instead of Gordon vs Jr, it's money vs money. In a sense that Hendricks is so deep they can pay for D. Green and Max Papis to go test they're cars for them while Gordon and Johnson are out doing whatever. That's the reason Roush sold half of his team to John Henry of Fenway. I didn't interprete his comments as meaning he wants to dominate other teams with his cars, he just wants to consistently be a in a position to win every week, which he hasn't been ever in his career and might result in a cup championship.
Why is it that people who have nothing good to put into this conversation still come in and ruin it for the rest of us? Bug off, guys. If you don't like it, don't come here. I already said it once. What is the point? All it does is show immaturity. Please, leave it be.
Thanks.
Thanks.
