Default Negotiating Price @ Dealer

I am about to go to help my sister buy a Mazda3 (i've already tried talking her into scion) and would like some tips to getting a good price from the dealer.

I am looking at the Mazda 3i Auto 2007 models and would like to know how much under the MSRP should i try to shoot for when negotiating a price w. the dealer.

Also are Advertisement cars which appear in the paper negotiable or nearly impossible to negotiate?

Find out what invoice is on the car and then send out emails to all the local dealers offering them 500 over whatever it is. Tell them if they accept you will come in immediately. Then make sure not to buy ANYTHING from them. No extended warranty, no alarm, NOTHING!

#1, Mazda3's are very much sought after. they are not sitting on parking lots with no one to buy them.

pick a car with poor resale value if you actually want to negogiate, i.e. non-suv american or kia or hyundais. or golfs.

don't expect discount, if any, if you're going after highly sought after cars.

Just shop on the internet. Why people even bother trying to play the dealership's games is beyond me. There is an absolute wealth of info on the intenet, and Edmunds is a great place to start.

That might be true in Seattle, but the Mazda dealer 1 mile from here has 3 or 4 of them sitting on the lot right now. They're a nice car, but not exactly a hot item with a waiting list.

FYI - Don't be suprised if the "Advertised" car isn't there, and never will be again. That is a common trick they use to get retards into the dealership.

I'd shop around on the internet. I bought my last two cars online. Internet sales guys don't care as much about the price, they are paid moreso on volume.
