it is a warning for people on slow modems to not enter a thread because it contains ginormous pictures that will take forever to load.

it is in the forum rules to give a courtesy warning when you post a thread that has large photos in it.

“pics” should be sufficient warning. Anyone who uses dial-up is more than aware that it is gonna take a while to load.

I’m not close to old, but I can remember when my buddy just installed his 28.8 kbps modem. That was amazingly fast. It really sucked when we waited forever to view the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit pics. Ooh, I see some hair and eyes. Oh yeah, check out that neck. Oh my god, I can see her bikini straps. Oh crap, I hear your mom walking down the steps, quick close it and open up Solitaire… whew, that was a close call. After she leaves it’s only gonna take 5 minutes to open that up again from cache….

Now that I typed that, I now understand why I’ve always seen the engineers at my old job playing Solitaire. I’ve always thought they played that all day. And “alt-tab” explains why they always appeared to be in the middle of a game. Funny thing about it, during the orientation tour, the guide was explaining how much work they did, and when we walked past their cubes, at least 1 in 5 was playing Solitaire. He even pointed it out and chuckled….

People who like to pay $5/mo. for their internet? I honestly don't know. The first time I ever got cable was almost two years ago.. but I remember when I was on dial-up and a friend of mine said, "I'm getting broadband installed tomorrow!" I was jealous. Then we got cable about two years ago.. and I did a test download on a file and I was SO amazed.. it was incredible. I was awed over it for months.

But if you wanna remember what dial-up is like.. visit SL when it's running slow. ;)
