I eventually went with canon due to familiarity, however from what I've seen, nikons tend to smoke canons in high iso performance, within the mid range dslr's. Canon catches up in their 5d and 1d series in terms of high iso performance, however those are in an entirely different price bracket.

Jon, still waiting on the results of the d90.
Roja, what happened to the photos I requested last night? Had to wake up to nothing today.
RnB, what new lens did ya get? And yeah sometimes the harsh critiques and tech talk gets old. Just being honest.

For versatility and learning the photography "craft" my vote will always go DSLR. These days you can get into DSLR fairly easy since there are numerous under the 1k range.
