I've had that happen on a few sites where the site seemingly kills the pic. Doesn't happen often though.

I've been in situations where the IS was invaluable to me, as image quality was absolutely paramount since I was getting paid for the images I captured.
Increasing ISO to get more usability in low light is no substitute for IS.
I've been shooting sports and concerts for years and have NEVER used IS
^ thats quite true.. i dont shoot sports and i dont find it very useful in still shots (cars).. i dont even find that its that useful in low light.. just use flash or a faster lens..

speaking of tripod.. i just picked up a manfrotto 190 and boy is that sucker a sturdy _____. slapped on the ball head from my auto rig setup and that is like the best tripod evarrrrrr
