I think the D40 and XS are pretty damn close..and the 3000 is the step up from the D40.

I think the D40 has been discontinued as of now.
I just purchased mine for $450 from Best Buy.
They were running a sale since its not being made anymore.

Its basically a toss up as far as I'm concerned.
Especially since your new to it.

i think d40 is the way to go. i started with one in my photography class and then stepped up to the canon 30d.

I think same price u bought it for I was jus on it it said either 499$ with sale in cart and the sale came out to like 459 or 479. I don't remember lol

Yeah Adorama and B&H are my preferred stores. Sometimes one is cheaper than the other but both have awesome service.

 

got my Rebel XS from BH...and my 50mm...and my 55-250...and my lowpro bag...

B&H has MUCH faster processing and shipping.

 

I don't know about that. When I ordered my D40 from Adorama I got it in 3 days on free shipping. I ordered my new gear from B&H and selected next day air. It got here on time but I paid for it. Both delivered UPS.

 

Everytime I order from B&H, I get the products within 3 days, no matter what. I ordered from Adorama last week and it took 6 business days for my lens to travel less than 50 miles.
