DSLR Owners Unite! (56k? Are you kidding me?)
I got the appropriate Opteka grip off Amazon. It was $30-$40 cheaper than the official Canon one. It feels solid and the batteries it came with have been great. The rubberized material on the grip is just like your thumb position on the body. The half-depress on the shutter doesn't feel quite as secure as the regular shutter button, and the dial is a little stiff to turn sometimes, but it still functions perfectly. Just doesn't feel quite as snappy as the original. But if you want to save some money, it's not a bad purchase.
About the Canon grip for the XSi, get the Canon. Trust me there is a reason you pay more.
And here is an article for those Canon shooters that are trying to decide between the 50mm models....
