Not for what I shoot. The 1.5x is very beneficial. Not to mention the 16MP is positively awesome. There's not much difference in an image from the D7000 and D700 @ 200 ISO.

and Dave, i like that, but i think it would be even better if you bumped up your aperature a bit. to make the focal range greater... because the headlight is part in focus, part out of focus...

I finally bought an external flash. I ended up buying Sunpak PF30XN. It had good reviews and a nice price. I was gonna get the Sb600, but was out of my budget. The only downside to the flash is the high charge time, however you can compensate for that with the proper batteries.

 

^ Nice pick up. Having a flash you can control or use off camera changes everything.

 

i dont think that sunpak one can be used off camera with out a cable trigger.
i saw some on extreme deal that were exact replicas of the sb600 for 30$ had good review from everyone. i considered buying a few of those just for fun at 30 u cant go wrong.
