i could never make that switch. lol i love my nikon originally i planned on a canon but my close friend already had a bunch of nikon gear and he convinced me to go nikon have not looked back since. we share a bunch of our equipment which works out great :D
other thing that drove me nuts was the moment i held a canon camera at the store it just didnt feel right compared to the nikon ones. the build quality didnt seem right to me it felt more plasticy and the shutter sound was weird but then again at that point i had 0 knowledge of photography

I played with the video on the Canon yesterday. Even though I didn't use it that much, I can honestly say that I love having the power of 60 fps. Even the 30 fps/1080p is a noticeable difference over my D90. I love it.

your videos r getting much much better jasper
i really liked that one. what lens r u using?
only thing that would make this video better is a stabilizer for all your moving shots to reduce the shake.
other than that it was superb.

^ thats next on my list. Thanks for the comment, man.

Oh, only using the kit lens right now. The 18-55mm IS. I'm considering the cheap 50mm 1.8 to use for video.

Anyone want to buy my D90 w/ Zeikos grip? I might sell the 18-105mm and 35mm with it, but I haven't made my mind up yet. I have my eye on the D7000. I'm gonna go look for one to try out tomorrow.

lol I'm trying to sell mine. I feel like they've gone down in value or something because no one wants to buy it.

Are you getting to D7000 for video or...?

I'm gonna try and move mine locally on CL. There's lots of photogs and gear being bought and sold around Atlanta. One perk about living here I guess lol.

I really want a D700. But being 3 years old, no video, and still $2400, I'm not sure. I would have to sell the D90 and those 2 lenses to make that move.

Compared to the D90, the D7k is newer, 16mp, 1080p video, 39 AF points, higher fps, higher dynamic range, and other stuff I'm probably forgetting. Oh and it's on sale for $100 off at a local camera store. $1099 body only.

Video will be nice to have, I just need to see if I'm patient enough for it lol. But it's not my motivation for wanting to upgrade.

the perks of the d7k r nice but not enough to get me to upgrade from my d90 its not a big enough jump. id need a fx body or perhaps wait off for the d300 replacement.

When you've pushed the D90 as far as it will go like I have, the benefits are more apparent. It just doesn't make sense to pay $1700 for a D300s when it's "old" technology. It's just a D90 with better AF, higher fps, and a few more features. ETA on the D400 is still in the air.

Same thing with the D700. It's overdue for a replacement but no one knows when it's going to happen. Mainly dude to Nikon's Thailand factory being flooded so you may be waiting a long time for that replacement. The announcement was supposed to happen in August with a release around Christmas, but mother nature changed those plans. If I could get one for $2100 or less, then maybe.

I'd only lose $200-300 upgrading to a D7k so it doesn't seem like a big deal.

Uh, yeah... About that... I thought the same until I sold off my D90 and got a D7000. 10,000 clicks later I now realize the D7000 is more than a "upgrade" from D90. The AF alone is superb -- if you have it matched correctly for what you are shooting. The noise handling is glorious. On the D90 I dreaded going over 800ISO, especially when doing my macro, as noise was too much from 1250 upwards. Now on the D7k, I hesitate before 3200ISO, but have no problems shooting 1600ISO and down. Blacks aren't farked up on the D7000 like they are on the D90 (using 3d matrix). Not to mention recovering blacks from D7k raw files is much more pleasant. The silicone and processor in the D7k are great for colors. I thought my D90 was the best with the Tamron 90 2.8 SP Di... until I used it on my D7k. Sigma macro (EX HSM) glass reacts very very well to the D7k as well. It improves on the D90 platform so much, in the best ways possible. I've decided recently that I'm going to pick up some older "pro" glass as im more than confident the D7k will handle them with ease.

I've shot alittle video here and there, but I don't really use it for that. I prefer my iPhone for video.

While I sit and ponder my next move, I bought this in the meantime.

This blows my old 50mm AF-D out of the water. It's on permanent film SLR duty now.

Yeah I borrow my buddy's from time to time. Ideally I'd like the 24-70 but I"m not paying another $700 for 4mm.

I think my next lens purchase will be the Sigma 85 1.4 around Xmas time. Figure that is the only lens my buddy and I do not have. Basically we have:

14 2.8L
30 1.4
45 TS
50 1.2L
135 2.0L

17-40 4.0L
24-70 2.8L
80-200 2.8L

So an 85 makes sense...but I am not paying double for the canon version because I am cheap bastard haha.

After much deliberation, I have decided the same. I'm renting the Nikon 24-70 2.8 just to see what it's like, but I won't miss the extra 4mm as most of my shooting is 35mm+ (when not shooting bugs).

So i found an 85 1.8 cheap and local...i already had this lens but traded it for a wide angle (which I then sold). I may pick it up to hold me until I get the 1.4 later. Also, I am still waiting for CiB to host my photos from FCF which was shot entirely with my 30 1.4 and 135 2.0 and I dont think I went above 2.8 all day. I have so many photos to share with yall.

^ Nice. I've been looking for an 85mm 1.8. I want to pick up one of those and a 50mm 1.8. Or just a 50mm 1.4.
