hello all,

here's an update: DRL got put in on wednesday at the dealership ($230 CAD + taxes --same price quoted at Canadian Tire). on thursday, my '07 tc PASSED the federal and provincial inspections. HOWEVER, Canadian Tire received a call from RIV yesterday saying that the recall clearance letter that i provided from my Dealer was not sufficient. lucky for me, i called Toyota USA in Torrence, CA today (open on saturdays!) and they said that they will fax me an official recall clearance letter on monday...so all should be well.

my insurance broker is all set and ready to go and has been helping me along the way. long story short, the car should be plated and insured sometime next week.

once everything is said and done, i will post detailed prices of all fees and costs related to this whole process.

have a good weekend kids.

hink she found a loophole but i wonder for how long this is cause according to scion they haven.t modified the tc to meet canadian specs but as if this is a loophole don,t wait buy know the worst that could happen is they tell you that they made a mistake but if you fight it you may get to keep it

Hmmm...I'd be very interested after reading the prices and process for doing this.

If there is indeed a loophole then yeah I'd do it now rather than later. (What is the loophole????) :p

Will be checking into that at the beginning of the week...
hello all,

SLK1Z is totally correct. i checked with RIV (Registrar of Imported Vehicles) a month ago while the car was on its way over on the boat from japan, and so far, according to the August 2006 update, the 2007 tc IS ADMISSIBLE. and lucky for me, i began the importation process my pretty new supa' white 2007 tc into BC YESTERDAY. no problems with the CBSA at the border, paid the taxes (they forgot to charge me duty-WOOT!)...but not quite home free yet. still need to go make modifications (if any) and pass the federal inspection.

is there anyone else in BC with a tc?

she's soooo pretty......
*wave* if you see me driving around kits in van.

take care + i'll keep you all posted on the progress.
i Hope to be going skiing in that area.. I think i may take my Tc up there.. Ill probly need chains for the snow though. be on the look out for a classic silver Scion tc 5speed. With a-pillar gauge pods. and PIAA HID's.

One thing to keep in mind though...you brought it in through a loop hole. Once the Gov realizes their mistake, you may have to get rid of the tC.
Also, I find your story slightly flawed.
Why pay the extra money to import a tC from Japan (BTW, their is no 'SCION' in Japan) when it would be much cheaper to import one from the US....especially since, as far as I know, the tC is available only as a US-market car.
2-You cant import any vehicle from Japan into Canada that wasnt sold here unless it is 15 years old...well, you can, but, you cant reg'r it for road use (IE, show or track car only). Thats why everyone in Canada with a skyline has 89's, lol!

to clear up all import confusion
That's a difficult question to answer.

The only legal way to own one of our cars in the US is to be a Canadian resident so you can register it and insure it with a Canadian address.

Now, hypothetically speaking if you didn't live in Canada but your friend did and he/she were to register & insure it in Canada then let you borrow it to drive in the USA.. However we do not advocate this option as it may be against the terms of both parties insurance.

If you don't register/insure it but drive it in America and get caught, it will likely be impounded and crushed.

If you trailer/ship it down and trailer it to offroad race events so that you're not driving it on public roads we personaly don't see why it would be a problem.. However, we specialize in importing in Canada not the US, we do not have experience doing so and would strongly suggest consulting your police, insurance, and possibly a lawyer to find out if this would work. Basically, it would be your responsibility once it was sold to you.

We would love to help you out if you can find a way to make it work. If you were to purchase one of our cars and attempted to import it to the USA unsuccessfully, let us know and we can look into helping you resell it to a Canadian resident to recoup your investment.

To summarize, no we are not able to import vehicles to the USA and are strongly against illegal importing of any kind as it could affect the Canadian import laws. That being said, we are always looking for legal options

Default importation details + costs

bear with me, this may become long and confusing...

let me preface this by saying that i have dual citizenship (US + CAN) but was a canadian resident until 2000, then a US resident from 2000-2006, and now a canadian resident again*.

*returning former residents of canada who have been continually absent from CANADA for 5+ years are entitled to a $10,000 CAD exemption on their vehicles (meaning you will only have to pay taxes on the cost of your car AFTER $10,000 CAD). unfortunately for me, i had already used that exemption on another vehicle that i imported back to canada last december, so the prices that follow in terms of taxes (GST/PST) will reflect being taxed on the whole cost of the vehicle.

websites you need to know:

[/table:a0fe142f23]

the aforementioned Grand Total does not include insurance. insurance in BC for the tC for 1 year ended up being $2,382.00 CAD--which really wasn't too far off from what i was paying in the US ($1,864.00 US).

was all of this worth it? hells yeah.
but i must say that being prepared, doing more than enough research and asking lots and lots of questions made the process much smoother.

hope this helps.

(i'll post a picture soon, it's too rainy outside to take one atm!)

"Provincial Inspection (Canadian Tire)"

You still had to get a Provincial inspection??

When I registerd my XB into Ontario They seemed like they wanted to ask for a Ontario Safety inspection for the vehicle... and I clearly told them that it is a brand new car and has a NY safety inspection already passed...

and turns out I didnt need the provincial inspection, or
E- test ether.. So I saved some good coin on skippin those.

Congats on the awsome import!!

okay, i've been the biggest fan of the tc and was looking at the importation list into canada about 2 weeks ago and noticed there was nothing about the 07 tC. my heart stopped beating because i've wanted one for so long. im in toronto and would love it if someone can 100% confirm on allowing it into ontario cuz i know it's been done in bc. it would really help cuz if it's true im going out next week to get me a tc. thank you very much, and i don't remember his name but whoever got the tc in canada can you post some pics of your tc. would love to see it and ask you some questions.

adam,

i CANNOT 100% confirm that you'll be able to bring it into ON. the only way that i was able to do it was to buy the tC as a US resident (with a US address and US insurance). after i bought it, i then moved back to canada--of course, this just happened to be beautiful timing that the '07 tC came out just before i was going to move.

i was not able to get BC auto insurance until the car had been brought back over the 49th and had passed all of the inspections. assuming that is also true in ON, i'm not sure if a canadian resident can go down and buy a tC without US auto insurance at the time of purchase. (albeit, this is only in regards to purchasing it privately, you can always find dealerships/brokers in ON that import scions and ask them)

the only advice i can give you...call around.
call US dealerships and tell them about your situation and find out what your options are first.
check with ON insurance brokers and see what they can do for you (assuming you will not be able to buy US auto insurance).

good luck!

When I drove down to get the XB I had my Auto insurance add the XB to my policy before I even purchased the vehicle... I gave them the details of the XB and its VIN# etc etc.... and then had it activate for the day I drove down... When I purchased the car at the dealership I already had insurance on it... This was needed because I also had to go to the DMV after and get a NY state In Transit permit. and you cant get that without proof of insurance on the vehicle..

Once I finaly got the XB back to Ontario and register/plated. I then Faxed a copy of the Ownership to my Insurance and they updated my file.

They basicaly floated the coverage till I could register the vehicle.

It was close to the same setup for my Financing... My bank floated my Loan till I registerd the Vehicle. THey didnt even have a VIN# till I registerd it and faxed them the Ownership as well.

I may have missred all of this ... to lazy and tired to read all of this.. but i am fairly certain it is illegal for ANY dealership to let a car go without insurance. granted some do it.. both parties you and the dealership could have a lot of legal issues if something where to happen. i am sure there is some way around this getting them into canada. The only think i know of is they do not have day time running lights you have to turn them on your self.. but big deal right.. i am not sure why they are not sold in canada.. i think they are missing out not selling.
