SCIONS IN CANADA
hehe..... I kinda like the fact that they are not sold in Canada.... it makes it an even more rewarding experiance to do some foot work to "earn" your Scion... and then to be part of the few in your area... I dont mind it this way at all...

logically, a car that cannot withstand at least a low-speed impact probably won't withstand a high-speed impact any better...
you're pretty funny though.

was all of this worth it? hells yeah.
but i must say that being prepared, doing more than enough research and asking lots and lots of questions made the process much smoother.
hope this helps.
(i'll post a picture soon, it's too rainy outside to take one atm!)
Why does insurance cost so much for your tC? Is it because its an imported car?
I'd love to get a tC for my dad (he lives in Ontario) but not if insurance is gonna cost that much!
Congrats on your new tC though!

if you'd like, read on...
little history lesson: auto insurance in BC pre-1973 was like auto insurance in the US (and other parts of canada), where one had the ability to choose who they would like to be insured by. when the NDP took over the provincial government in BC in 1972, they decided that government governed auto insurance is the way to go. so ever since 1973, ICBC has been the only governing body in the auto insurance field in BC and can basically do, and CHARGE US, whatever they want because they are the ONLY providers of auto insurance for BC.
the only good thing about ICBC--you never have to worry about either an under or UNinsured motorist. that means everyone on the road in BC is insured since you can't get or renew your plate (also governed by them) without valid insurance.
the very, very BAD THING about ICBC--if you get into an accident with someone else and you end up going to court to fight your case, and since ICBC is the ONE and ONLY provider in BC, they end up being both the DEFENDANT and PLAINTIFF--and therefore representing both you and the person you're fighting against. that means, cases are usually settled 60/40 or 70/30 where both parties end up shelling out some dough even if they didn't cause the accident. i hate how they won't fight for you since they see it as fighting against themselves. ggrrrr.
....and that's why car insurance in BC is so expensive...because ICBC HAS NO SOUL.
but grats on getting through all of my rambling!
having said that, i have no idea if ON has provincially governed auto insurance or not. if they do, i'm sure it'll cost a few pretty pennies. if not, LUCKY THEM!
call around and get some quotes...my broker insured my car under the category of a 2Dr Coupe, with the value of $23K CDN.
good luck!
and quickly...
i totally second that. it feels kinda nice to know that i may be the only one in canada to have a tC.
teeheehee....

Thanks for the info tiny! That's really good to know about the diffs in insurance.
In Ontario, the auto insurance isn't provincially governed so I don't think that would be a problem. The only thing that really sucks are all the imports taxes and fees you have to pay to bring a car across the border. But for $20k CDN, that's not too bad. I imagine if the tC went for sale in Canada it would probably go for $28k+.
How are you liking the tC so far? You folks in BC don't have to worry about too much snow, so no rustproofing eh?
Are you in Vancouver? I have a friend who moved to Burnaby not too long ago from CA. I should try to convince him to get a tC too
