Default Visa = WTF?

#1 Visa calls me to make sure I am the one who spent $50 in an online poker room (I did)

#2 Visa calls me to make sure I spent $49 on my cell phone bill (I did)

#3 Visa calls me to make sure I spent $650 on my new navigation setup for the FHC (I did)

#4 Visa does NOT call me when someone spends over $2,800 with my Visa card online with 138 seperate transactions in only 30 minutes. (I had to call them the next day when I noticed it while checking out my account online)

I'll get my money back, no worries there, but the first three raised a red flag while the 4th one didn't?

WTF???

I use to work in the fraud detection unit for B of A for a short period of time.

When they see transactions on your account that are not normal, they will call you. After they call you the first time, they might expect that it is normal with online purchases.

Doesn't always make sence, but that is why they have that unit and that is why they all offer fraud investigation and do not require you to pay that back.

Visa won't take the loss - they'll just charge it back to the merchants. At least YOU won't take the loss directly.

Does seem really odd that they did challenge some of your normal small purchases, but then let that many for that much slip by in such a short time without raising a question.

(I've only had one Visa charge challenged, and it was a legit purchase by me - about $400, on-line, from an outfit in Germany - that was way out of my normal pattern, and I thanked them for questioning it.)

Glad you caught it!

Wow, that's crazy. Glad you caught it and Visa is refunding it.
I used to work at a pharmacy and the company had an employee who had been transfering funds each week from the company account to her personal account. The company never did that and so it was something out of the ordinary. It took the bank 9 months to notice something amiss, but by that time the employee had embezzeled over half a million. Sometimes the way banks work just seem stupid.
