I would think this would be a warrantble item if this is a common issue.

That doesn't sound fair. If you buy the part from the dealer and don't have them install it
it's not covered. Sounds kind of hokie to me. If you buy a part from a parts store 9 out 10
times you get somesort of warrenty. Why would toyota stand behind their cars but not the
parts for their cars?

I found this on the internet.

TOYOTA'S LIMITED WARRANTY FOR
PARTS & ACCESSORIES

WHAT'S COVERED:
TOYOTA* warrants that it will either provide a replacement part or repair any TOYOTA part or accessory that is defective in material or workmanship. This warranty applies to new or remanufactured parts which are genuine or authorized TOYOTA parts. Except for those parts or accessories listed below, this warranty is good for 12 months, regardless of mileage from the date of purchase or installation on a vehicle, or the remainder of any applicable new vehicle warranty, whichever provides greater coverage.

You could always talk to Alfonso at Camelback or Ryan at Scott. They both take of me great and help me out whenever they can, if you know what I'm sayin'!!!

It's doubtful but worth trying.

The dealer, in order to replace the part, must return the defective on to Toyota so they can have it analyzed to determine if the failure was random or a design issue.

Take it back to where you bought it and see if they can do it. If you bought it here let me ask for you.
