It doesn't matter if it was a private lot or not. This must be some kind of urban legend.

If this was a school lot, it actually is a public lot if it is a public school. If it is a private school, it still doesn't matter. The other person's insurance should pay for your damage!

I know your pain... I park as far as i can now a day. The most scary place is at meijer for me where all the shopping carts zooming by you all the time...
