Default My 4th was the WORST ever thanks to CHP

Well I was driving back from Blythe after meeting a freind to sell my racing seats and I was on the 10 fwy and got pulled over for tinted windows in Banning. He then made me turn on the car and rev it. Long story short I was forced to pop my hood and got busted for the turbo and exhaust and tint and got a state referee ticket. I also got a ticket for going 88 in a 70.

So apparently my turbo, exhaust, hood, and brakes wont pass CA State Ref certification. So now I am royally scewed beyond all belief.

The CHP officer was the biggest A-HOLE i have ever dealt with and so was his partner and I have been pulled over a lot and dealt with a lot of cops.

So due to finacial reasons I have to sell the turbo because I cant afford the ticket which is probably going to cost upwards of a grand. So I have to sell EVERYTHING on my car and i will be driving a completely stock tC.

I am super ____ed off and very frustrated with this whole mess. I dont have all my stock parts either so now I get to track those down. Its going to be a horrible and not fun process to strip my beloved car down to stock.

So literally every last single part on my car has to go, if you want something let me know

The worst part about this whole ticket...

I cant legally drive my car on the street until everything is off.

OK... the turbo and exhaust... yeah that sucks but it's the risk you take in California. Your brakes? The officer was just piling on a load of crap. The good news/bad news is that you will have to strip the turbo off, however, you have a lot of friends to help you out. I've got a full stock exhaust and manifold you can borrow for free to go to the ref with... but you'll have to drive to the San Fernando Valley to pick it up and to bring back when your done.

Once you pass, re-install the turbo and for good measure (yeah... this part sucks) take off the tint. Also, if you have a "JDM-style" exhaust, you may want to ditch that in favor of a OEM-style muffler.

As for the speeding ticket... I can't really help you with that. Frankly, I'm surprised you were able to reach 88 mph with all of the trucks and RVs on the 10... I barely make 75 before having to jam on the brakes for a RV passing a semi at 65.

Anyway... good luck and don't give up hope, it may not be as bad as you think.

I dont mean to be a butt, but the CHP didnt ruin your day. You speeding and having illegal parts ruined your day.

Not that I think its right to have such ___ rules, but its the rules and you new them, so you cant really blame the dude doing his job.

Its very possible for a brake kit to be illegal. Thay have to DOT approvedd, and I dont know if any kits are.
The brake lines have to be DOT approved, even the brake fluid has to be DOT approved, along with the pads, rotors, and calipers.

Any item on your car that is inspected at an inspection station has to be a DOT approved item. I.E. Headlights, talights, windshield, tires, brakes, suspension components.

This is from Wilwood:

"Question: Is this kit for racing only and DOT approved?
Answer: There is not such thing as a DOT approved after market brake kit. No manufacturer or vendor will give you a written letter with that certification on it. The big difference Wilwood states that these are for racing only to limit their liability. Wilwood is one of the few companies that make brake kits for the Winston Cup Cars. No manufacturer will provide you will a DOT certification in writing. Why? Because there is no such thing, just ask Baer, Gobal West or Stainless Steel Brakes to provide you with this certification in writing."

I feel your frustation on the whole CHP thing. But If you could go back and do it over again would you be speeding or doing 5+ the speed limit?

22350 - Unsafe Speed
26708 - TINT

I will guarantee if you were doing a normal speed that you wouldn't of had recieved a ticket for anything. All those infractions you listed can be fixed if it wasn't for the speeding.

He probably was an _______ due to the fact he was a Training Officer, because if you notice CHP don't ride with partners, they are usually single patrol. Correct me if I'm wrong but only LAPD have partners.

well I cant afford to put the turbo back on so its going to be for sale and I have the ptuning exhaust which doesnt look jdm at all. Tint is going gone for good. And it was 5am and there was no cars on the freeway hence the speed.

I wish I had AZ plates more than you could imagine.

And the brakes are perfectly legal. I looked into and the cop was just retarded.

The hood will not pass simply becuase it doesnt have the factory oem emision stickers on it. I can buy those and the hood will pass easily.

Sorry to say it but he is right.

If ya didn't give them a reason to pop you, you wouldn't be in this boat....AGAIN. I mean you've been pulled over how many times out there with your car?

I don't want to give the cops a reason to pull me over and hassle me so that's why I'm running legal tint on my side windows. The new thing out here is DPS checking window tint with the meter and if your illegal the fun (for them) begins and your fines start piling up.

But, California is a different animal out there, the cops are freaking ruthless and all the flaming hoops they make you jump through is absolutely redicilious.

It's either
a) Bring the car back to stock, pay your fines by selling your stuff and call it a day
b) Take all the go fast goodies off, trade it in on another TC, get this one in your own name and get Arizona plates on it then put your go fast goodies on the new TC
c) Convince your Mom to put Arizona plates on it.
d) Trade it in on something that comes from the manufacturer that has a turbo or s/c on it and then CHP can get down on their knees.

Good luck brother. If I could fit that turbo on my XB, I'd be all over it like flies on poop.

ALL ROTORA BRAKE SYSTEMS AND BRAKE COMPONENTS ARE FOR RECREATIONAL OFF ROAD USE ONLY. THEY ARE NOT DESIGNED OR APPROVED FOR OFF ROAD RACING, OR COMPETITION DRIVING.

I found another spot that says they are good for Street/Recreational Off Road use. Not sure if that means street legal or, Closed course off road use on streets. Not sure.

Oh well. They arent dot approved so it doesnt matter.

this is why my brother worries me. i might just have to force him into a oem style exhaust, instead of the carbon ti he has now.

but that REALLY sucks, hope things work for the best

LOL! Well I mean it's hard to be young and make mistakes like these. I have made some of my own. However this is why I have not tinted my headlights or front side windows. I have so much I don't want to get a ticket for. Why give the police an invitation to ruin your day?

In California they cant stop you for Tint. but they can give you a ticket for it after. I gather they stopped you for speeding right? If they did not say that you might have a case. I have gone over 80mph maybe 3 times this year. by mistake.
