"PURE PRICE" really non-negotiable???!?!
Im buying my new 08TC on Monday, anyone heard of this new "pure price" thing scion is pressing. Is it really non-negotiable? I thought EVERYTHING in life was negotiable lol.
Please let me know if you've had an experience getting your car BELOW the "pure price" $$$$$
the more I save on the price means the more moola I have to put into the car itself.
THANKS!!!

pretty much whatever price is on the sticker is what you're going to end up paying from what i've heard. when i bought mine i didnt really try to negotiate anything. it pretty much had all the things that i wanted on it. but it did have some rims that i didnt like that the dealer put on and i was able to get them to take them off and put the stock wheels back on so it just may depend on the dealer. if you look for one that has all the things that you like you should be good.
Let's put it this way: If the dealer does not sell you the vehicle at the price posted on the internet, in the dealership and on the car, they can lose their franchise - their ability to sell Scions.
Makes most dealers toe the line pretty closely.

ive heard that some dealers have lowered the price on cars. but here's the catch.. they lower the price of each vehicle equally. so that means they'll sell a tc for $500 under msrp, but every other tC on the lot (same year) is also discounted $500 under msrp. Does this make sense? not breaking the rule of "pure pricing", but it sure is bending the heck out of it..
No, not bending the 'rule' at all. Pure price demands that any individual dealer sell identical Scions at identical prices to all customers - no special deals, but it does NOT demand that their price be one set by corporate.
Each dealer is allowed to set their selling price above, below, or at MSRP, so long as all CUSTOMERS get the same deal.
Dealer A may well sell tCs at $500 less than Dealer B, and as long as they sell them for that price to everyone, there is no problem with pure price.
Pure price does not mean that Scion Corporate sets the price, just that whatever a dealer sets as a price is the same for everyone.
(I guess I said that three or four different ways, but just trying to get across what "Pure Price" means - hope one of those ways of saying it gets it across.)

"Invoice" is what the dealer is billed for the product - what they have to pay to get it.
The reason non-Scion dealers can make it seem like you are getting one Hell of a deal (One Dollar Over Invoice!!!) is that the invoice for most brands is what the dealer is billed, but NOT what the dealer pays...
There are things like "holdback" which is an amount held back by the distributor, then returned to the dealer at the end of the quarter - sort of like getting a rebate. There are also other amounts that are given to many dealers to cover flooring, insurance, financing fees, advertising, etc.
From what I understand, for Scions, there is no holdback. They pay invoice price, and don't get a rebate from the distributor at the end of the quarter, so to keep the lights on, they can't afford to sell for "invoice."
Actually, the MSRP markup over invoice for Scion is less than the hidden "holdback" for many, if not most cars.
In other words a Brand X dealer can show you the "factory invoice," sell you a car for just $1 more than you think they paid for it, and at the end of the quarter get back from the distributor a nice $1200 - nearly twice what the Scion dealer made by selling at MSRP.
The difference? Scion's prices are up-front, nothing hidden. Brand X pricing is fake all the way back to the assembly line.
Ask yourself: Why are Scions MSRP prices so much better than any equivalently equipped quality vehicle of another brand?
Because Scion's prices don't have thousands of dollars built in at the factory to "pad" the alleged dealer cost, that is then given to the dealer later for selling the car.
Pure price actually is different.

(Thank Ghu I was never in car sales - there would have been blood...)

awesome advice, NOW I've gone to every dealer from here to hollywood and NONE have the car that I want in stock, Im not one to settle for less then what I want......
How willing will dealers be to order the car I want, exactly how I want it?!?!

Many of us 'ordered' our Scions because our dealers didn't have exactly what we wanted. Others of us had our dealers search close by dealerships to see if any had what we wanted and were willing to trade (both of mine were dealer trades, one from a dealer 15 miles away, the other from a dealer in another state, 265 miles away).
Any dealer worth buying a car from will order what you want. If they are unwilling, I, personally, would walk out.
Good luck!
