speeding ticket
From my two experiences involving speeding I would have to say DON'T pay the ticket straight off the bat. For both of my tickets I plead NOT GUILTY and went to court. First off this prolonged paying for the ticket by about a year, (not even kidding you) and second when you do go in for your court date your charge will most likely be lowered and you can always get your points down, if not taken away completely. I don't know if it works differently elsewhere, but in NY I found you should never immediately plead guilty and pay the fine.
My first ticket was like 185 bucks and 4 points, but after pleading not guilty and showing up on my court day it was taken down to 100 bucks and no points. My second ticket was downgraded to a lesser violation and once again with lowered fine and no points. So yes in the end you will end up paying for something, but you could end up paying less and with no points to worry about.

ya it sucks i got a speeding ticket too and since im a minor all you have to do is pay the ticket and set a date for traffic school..i only had to go to court ( with a parent ) to get an extension on the traffic school..but yes your insurance does not go up if you go to traffic school

YO! well i got my first ticket at 17 as well, and it was about that in a 35 (on campus dr. by arcadia hs) and my ticket ended up costing around $750 - but... it's is all because i misplaced my ticket and went really really late, we're talking like 5 months.. so i don't know how much the speeding ticket should be, but mines ran me.. AVOID THE BENCH WARRANT!!!

Most all the advice in this thread is bunk. The process for tickets varies from state to state and jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Some places have traffic school, some don't. Some let you make it a non-moving violation by paying twice the fine, some don't. Some places require to you hire a lawyer, most don't. Some places you are required to appear in court, in other places its nearly impossible to get a court hearing.
Ask people that have gotten a ticket in the same jurisdiction where you got yours.

yeah....in cali thats an expensive ticket. (could be like 300+ depending on how man y miles/hr over the speed limit you were) If you go to traffic school it wont go on your record as a point. You only get to do this once every few years though. If you continue to get tickets one after the other then you start getting points on your record for each ticket and your insuance goes up. By the way....dont try to "fight " a 79 mile/hr ticket you will lose.Besides it sounds like he gave you a break lowering your speed. The only way to win that is if the cop doesnt show up in court which is not likely but does happen. Just pay the ticket do traffic school and be cool for a while.

im exmurderblahs gf, the one who actually got the ticket, and i just wanted to thank you guys for helping me out, i am prolly just going to plead guilty via mail, pay the fine and go to traffic school, i cant afford my insurance to go up any higher. I learned through one of the websites posted above that because i am a minor i cant plead guilty. i hoping the ticket wont be over 300, i got marked for going 79 on the freeway, the cop was nice to me, i was going 85-90... wish me luck
GOOD LUCK!
btw as [SEXB909] kirby said, "WE" the insurance (well at least mercury) the tickets will stay on your INSURANCE record, not necessarily your driving record, but my insurance premium didn't increase until my car accident. but again GOOD LUCK!!!
