!!!!South Florida - Scion 1/8 Drag Event!!!!
CSOCSO, great idea for an event. I am already in the process of clearing my whole day with the wife so I can go (well, when we get a date I will but I have planted the idea lol). I am never one to stay quiet and I hope not to offend by adding my two cents to the idea here. I have to agree with what has been said before. I would go with bracket racing for a few reasons, off the top of my head: One, it eliminates all need for sub classes as you are being competitive with your consistency as a driver vs. how much money you've been able to dump into your car so far. Two, it will fully give you the ability to bracket times out as you're wanting to do anyway. It also allows all of us a sense of competition with each other as it comes down to our driving skill and not our cars' speed skill. For example, last year I was spectating a bracket race event at Moroso and watched a stock Honda Element make it to the top 10 against fully modified street and rail cars. Thus, I think it would give each of us the equal shot against the other.
Speaking of Moroso, if you go to www.morosomotorsportspark.com on the right hand side of the screen under menu you will see a listing for track rentals and I think the info or contact information can be found there. Also, I think it is an idea to look into as they have a 1/8 and 1/4 mile tracks where as, if I am not mistaken, countyline is only an 1/8 mile. Two added bonuses to this idea are, though I live in Dania and know the drive as I go to the AutoX there, it would put the event in a central location and more people are likely to come and the other being that Scion has already held an event there, and since your looking for some level of backing from them, each party knows what to expect from the other.
I also have question: Are spectator fees going to be different from driver fees and, if they are, what will these prices be just incase I bring my wife and 18mth old son? Also, will you have a way for drivers to register ahead of time?
Well, as stated earlier I hope that I haven't been offensive in any way. Just trying to help throw some ideas out there. I am getting ready to vote and you can count me in at the very least.

Let's be real, do you want to see a turbo car against a stock car and see it get whipped or would you rather watch two cars that are similar have a photo finish?
Also let me add that every single auto tc would win in a bracket race.
bracket is a way to race cars of different levels of power together in one tournament without being unfair. Before the tournament everyone gets 2-3 practice runs to see the best time the car can pull, then you give guy in charge a time you think your car can run (ex: 9.9, 10.15,etc.) then the tournament is started and you have to try to run as close as possible to your bracket time without going below it, if you do your disqualified. The way the races are gonna be setup is as follows, if a car that has a bracket time of 9.5 is gonna run a car that has a time of 10.5, then this car gets a 1sec. head start, get it.
I quoted this from earlier on page one just show an example that I am not the only one who thinks bracket racing would be more of an equal way to race the different levels of modifications and that I am not the only one with same bracket racing experience. If you agree that this is the base idea for bracket racing, then you would also agree that with the difference of time and distance given to the slower car, that both cars generally end up near the finish line at around the same time. You may very well be right that I don't know a whole lot about racing but here is what I do know, bracket racing is generally used when the playing field is so vast, with different levels of modifications that to list all the cars in their respective classes and have a fair unbiased competition, would be a high improbability. All I was saying was what had already been said, and that is that bracket racing would create an equal playing field.
Now to quote you, "Most turbos are not setup for bracket racing." In the case of what CSOCSO is trying to plan this would mean that, should we use bracket racing, we are going to be drag racing racing would you agree? I mean this with no ill will but if your turbo is not set-up nor can it handle drag racing (which makes no sense) then you probably shouldn't attend, How you keep score makes no difference in how you race an 1/8 or 1/4 mile drag.
I would like to address the money comment as I probably failed to explain it correctly. As to my knowledge (and I could be wrong so don't quote me) in bracket style scoring consistency is the key, for example let's say you and I are up and your set time w/turbo is 11.2 and mine stock is 15.8. I get my head start we race you catch me and we finsih at about the same time. you ran a 11.43 and I ran a 15.89 at this point your difference in time is greater than mine. The end result is I move on you go home ( but then again I could be wrong). All I was trying to say is that this type of scoring (bracket racing) allows for the skill of a driver to show more than the skill of my engine that I dumped alot of money into so it would go really fast.
To your third issue, a built motor w/turbo vs. non-built motor w/turbo vs. Nitrous. The only thing I am going to say is that there are so many variables (in and outside of the engine bay) at this point in a build that it comes down to what you did that he didn't or what he did that you didn't. With that I am going to leave it alone.
I have a hypothetical question and then I will shut up. For discussion sake only let's say it's 30 bucks to get in and let's add to that, that only 1 XA shows up (now mind you this is hypothetical and a near impossibility but let us just what if for a moment). Who does he race? does he go down the track once and then goes home because there are more cars that need to race.? I mean he paid just as much as we did but because he has no equal competition does he get screwed? I have to say that given time and alloted distance bracket racing would keep that from happening, but then again I could be wrong. However, if I am wrong then I will stand corrected, apologize for wasting everyones time, and will just pay my dues show up to race and go home when I get beat out. It's no big deal to me as long as I get to drive.

There is a reason for having different classes.
A stock auto tc only needs to worry about the launch
A modified manual tc needs to worry about rpms, launching, shift points, wheel spin, clutch control, and so on.
The point of drag racing is to have an accelerating contest from one point to another with the fastest being the winner. Bracket racing is testing to see who has the better R/T and who doesn't screw up in the 1320feet down the track.
Screw it, lets just have one class and a leader board. First place through 80th place (how ever many show up). Right next to the name is their time.
1. ME - 12.21
2. Etsnet - 12.22
3. You - 16.10
lol
(times were based on 1/4 mile track, not the mini half track)

You can have all the mods you want but to run a tC turbo at about the same time every time you would need to be dialed in to the T. There's one tC I've heard of that has done bracket racing turbo and that's Munch but he's a freak of nature and don't count.

It's rare to have a daily driven aftermarket turbo car to be setup for bracket racing. I don't think you really know what it's like to have a turbo car so I can see why you don't get what I mean. How you keep score does make a difference cuz bracket racing is for people who can pull off the same times every time. You might as well give a trophy to a stock auto if we bracket race. That's like giving a mac'd out motor tC the trophy if we all raced for the fastest time. Compete with people in your class and it makes for a better race and a better show.
BTW Joe, it would be more like...
1. ME
2. You
80. Him
etsnet is 100% right on this... sorry r78 but you are way off of what your speaking about... your basically asking cars with various levels or mods to compete against each other which probably in a real 1/8 + condition other cars would have more advantage.. or even from 1/4+ highway or 40+ roll other cars would have advantage..thats more unfair then fair...
