Official Scion FR-S Discussion Thread
Since so many people are buying them, I figured it was time to start the stickies. Color threads here: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=215203
Does anyone know if the BRZ colors are identical minus WRB? I know they have different names but for some reason I doubt they'd be spraying 14 different colors on the same assembly line, but I could be wrong.

WR Blue Pearl
Satin White Pearl
Dark Grey Metallic
Lightning Red
Crystal Black Silica
Sterling Silver Metallic
Galaxy Blue Silica
FRS colors are:
Raven
Asphalt
Ultramarine
Firestorm
Hot Lava
Argento
Whiteout - which features a charge of $220.00
From what I can tell, the colors are all different shades, the whites, silvers, and black/greys COULD be the same. The blues, different for sure. Same with the reds
I think they really are spraying 10 different colors. Only scions "white" seems to have the upcharge.

Considering differences in camera devices and lighting, this looks like the same color to me.

Red in shadow like the pic I took Sunday.

I think we need all the colors in a lineup (FRS and BRZ) at some point. If they are different, its not by much. Also, the color change gradient could be due to use of metallics/non metallic. That would make a difference which might only be noticeable on a side by side shot. Either way, I am glad that the car is out, people are buying it (each appointment I had at the dealership, both were sold before I got there). So these cars are not going to be sitting on the lots any time soon. The only color I would not like, is the hot lava.
Since subie does not follow "pure price" I am curious if their white car costs more too. I have heard some horror stories of bait and switch with the subaru cars, and up to a $5k mark up on the forums.
the colors between the FR-S/86/GT-86 and the BRZ are all EXACTLY the same.
They just have different names, the paint codes are all exactly the same
subaru gave the toyota hot lava color its own subaru paint code even though it is the same.
the only paint differences between them are the fact that WRB is only available on the subaru and hot lava is only available on the FR-S/86/GT-86.
it looks like scion charges more for satin white pearl simply because they have always charged more for any of the cars to come with pearl white (Blizzard Pearl, costs more as a stock or built in to the RS costs)
Since the BRZ already costs a couple thousand more then an FR-S, it is probably already built into normal BRZ sales

the subaru MSRP doesn't include some things that the scion MSRP does, like delivery processing, and handling fees, etc.
the actual out the door price differences between the 2 is more then just what the MSRP looks like.
which will vary from dealer to dealer, some will most likely be closer then others, I don't doubt it.
just going from my closest dealers here the 2 models base prices I have seen with just what is on the sticker the premium BRZ was 2k more then the FR-S.

even going on the subaru and scion websites just now, which subaru.com does add only delivery/processing not in the MSRP for the BRZ in the build your own, the premium BRZ is still over $1k more.
there is still the argument that one could haggle away these differences, though, i haven't tried so I cannot comment on that.

Ah. In my region it comes out to a $1280 difference. Still with standard navigation, alcantara seats, better looking dash and HVAC, and standard HIDs it seems like a bargain to me. And the BRZ has the LEDs in the headlights. The JDM 86 headlights with the LEDs are $1100 per side according to ft86club.

(and gjp***, get real; you very well may be able to haggle with a Suburu dealer but not in the near future on a BRZ)
That would only come into play for warranty work. For regular out of pocket maintenance, it won't matter if you take it to Toyota or Subaru. Keep in mind the drivetrain is all Subaru, minus the D4S injection system.
Toyota/Scion Customer Relations > Subaru's Customer relations
That would be enough for me to pick and stay with Scion than Subaru.
Some would also negate that $2k worth of cosmetics so they didn't have to look at the Charlie Chaplin mustache bar on the BRZ.
I've never owned a Subaru so I can't comment on that. Toyota dealers aren't always easy to work with. You shouldn't have to go to corporate to get things done on the dealer level.
Wasn't speaking of dealers.
Talking all of the support that Corporate Scion gives to it's consumers.
-The 86 program (nothing equivalent done by Subaru)
-When the people were delivered their FR-S, Toyota basically made them a RockStar for the day. Up and beyond the call of duty really. (Didn't see that happening with any of the Subaru purchases).
-The Scion Exposed show and other Random Scion Corporate sponsored events where everything is free and you just need to show up. (Does Subaru have the equivalent?)
-Scion seems to reach out more to the grass roots enthusiast
-Overall community of Subaru owners seem to have this elitist mentality Even the BRZ sub forums, members look down on the Scion (even with it being the same damn car). Go to the FR-S forums and they don't have that attitude towards BRZ owners/buyers.
That's the Customer relations I'm speaking about really. Just overall brand experience.
I would chalk that up to a different brand image. Scion has always been about modifying the vehicles. Getting into that culture requires meets, shows, hangouts, etc. Subaru caters to a different demographic. Other than the WRX, their models are pretty bland. The regular Impreza, Outback, Legacy, Tribeca, Forester...eeewww. They're most popular age group with buyers has got to be 30-40 years old. I didn't really expect them to do anything with the BRZ release especially since they didn't want to build it in the first place.
True that, Scion's Target demographic is more youthful. Interesting thing though is Scion's customer mean age is 30yrs old. So I think Subaru customer mean age is more like 45+yrs old.
I think you are overlooking the AT which is derived from the Lexus IS F (- 2 gears) but your point is well taken.
