*shrug* we were told it was called tC instead of aC, bC, cC, etc. because it stood for touring coupe. not because the car's name was touring coupe. the car is a touring coupe, and that is why scion made it "t" instead of any other letter. that is what we were told at the tC training during the tC launch here in california.
and again, 4th model....not to replace the tC, that's what i wanted to get across. toyota does care about those spoiled kids, cause they want first time buyers...not toyota hardcore customers. and just like someone in here said, the average spoiled kid doesn't look at scion because of the fact that they feel it's cheap.
I don't really believe there will never be a 4th model, because Scion will always change. here's an example, when scion first launched in california, they said that in a few years, there would be seperate scion dealerships, and that scion would be coming out with a new model every year. if you include the redesign in there, that would be a minimum of 6 models. 2 at launch, and 1 for 4 years until the 5th year when they redesign the first 2.
So, it's not totally unimaginable that scion would change it's stance down the line. one of the things that they hammer to us at the training is that the whole reason for scion, is that toyota felt like they were the current oldsmobile...which had a good market share, had the same age group, and had the same type of reliablilty....but is now out of business. so toyota needed to adapt and change....and anytime you're dealing with a younger consumer, you have to change constantly. so...why not?

*edit*
i think the subaru wrx and wrx STi are perfect examples. a lot of kids drive those, and are now big fans of subaru. same with the evo and mitsu.

Nothing is coming to Florida that isn't coming to the rest of the country. They might get more adds on their cars from the port, but it's nothing that your local dealer couldn't duplicate.

One reason it wasn't an xC is because Volvo has that designator already in play.

As for the touring coupe name.... it very well could be how they internally referred to the tC. It just would never see the light of day officially.

I agree with you on the future possibility of a fourth model. There's so much change going on in the auto industry right now I just couldn't hope to figure which direction they'd take. But... if it were up to me? I'd bring back a little truck and trick one out with technology and tuning potential. Remember the little pre-Tacoma trucks?

the toyota pickup? no real name? just toyota truck i have one....200k miles.
here's one reason i've never believed the whole tC=toyota celica, the tC was not made as the celica replacement. it happened to replace the celica after it came out and celica sales slumped even further. which led to them killing off the celica.
and as any current or past celica owner will tell you, the tC is no celica. just the type of car is different. the tC is to heavy, doesn't have the same type of powerband...etc. just driving both cars you can really tell a difference, well i think anyways. but, this is just my opinion. it really doesn't seem like when toyota was designing the tC, it was designing the next celica, especially since the tC was designed only for our market...specifically for our market...bigger is better.
interesting side note here...the xbox. did anyone know that they specifically made the xbox system large, and the controllers big, because in america we think bigger=better. i always thought that was funny.

Agreed. But... just for fun.... go back to the 94-99 Celica... then evolve that car forward and you might come up with something along the lines of a tC. Just bigger. Like the Eclipse grew up.

Scion will suprise us..they have the initiative and the money now. Reps and dealers are the last to know anything but pretend to know everything. Be prepared to see Scion escalate things to a new tier ...never seen in an entry level sports car.

I didnt read the whole thread so im not sure if someone said it but Im thinking an MR2 type car. More of a roadster with a removable hard top. Smaller than that tC with probably the same engine so it will be a little faster only because of weight. Scion xD Roadster.....I can see it now....

It's nothing from the port....I can't disclose too much information as of now but something is coming to Florida at one of the shows...keep an eye out.

Scion always seems to surprise..back before the tC was released we did a focus group at the Toyota HQ in Torrance CA and met with the xA, xB and tC chief engineers and were shown tons of pictures to throw us off.

Darren (Scion Life owner) and myself were fortunate enough to be the very first few to see the tC before it was even released to the press a few years back when we were invited as guest of Toyota/Scion at the Detroit Autoshow.

You always will see concepts but until the actual press release is announced it's always speculations. Also, the dealers are always the last people to know about what comes out...believe me.

When Jim Farley was the VP of Scion I remembered during a conversation with him that not all concepts end up with the Scion badge..remember, their goal is to have the most bang for the buck and always have the WOW factor. Before the tC was finalized, the tC was originally not going to have an all glass roof etc. Toyota/Scion was told that it was "impossible" to build the car and still hit the target price. The Genesis folks (now Scion) said that in order to the car to be badged as a Scion product it has to have the wow factor and have a reasonable price.....after all was said and done, the final tC had the glass roof and still kept the MSRP Scion had stated.

I can't wait for any new models to come out. Fortunately living in SoCal and not too far from Toyota/Scion HQ we are sometimes fortunate enough to see concept and new vehicles being offered by Toyota/Lexus and Scion.

Oh... I see. A concept car to be shown in Fla?

I thought you'd meant a new Scion for Florida only. My bad.

i'll be the first to tell you i know everything last. see even that, fuse told everyone first that i knew it last. anyways, i'm just gonna be glad to see this concept. cause, even though they never make it to production, it is a view into what some of the things they're trying to do are. like, for example the all glass roof, that was on the ccx concept.

Scion has said that they are limiting the number of vehicles available at one time to be no more than three.
After a model has been out for 4 or so years they retire it and replace it with a new one.
