I have been searching for a DIY on how to do this type of finish, but all I find is on how to smoke the tail lights. I just love how the tail lights look; they have like a dull finish, does anyone know how to achieve this finish? I was thinking on doing some wetsanding and then a clear coat maybe?

 

a clear coat would make it shiny. try wetsanding with 1000 and finish with a flat clear.

 

Put a few coats of clear, then hit it with some like 3000 grit.

 

It looks like tinted matte clear coat.

 

When these were on display at the Portland Oregon event they said it was sanded to get that finish. Ask Five Axis they have a web site

 

I remember 5-axis wrote a diy in one of my magazines I sub to. Let me look for it

Thank you all for the input! So far it looks like it's a Flat Coat or Matte Clear Coat + Wetsanding with 1000+ grid (?)

Any special brand that you guys have in mind for the Flat Coat or Matte Clear Coat? Isn't Matte pretty much the same as Satin?

But I do remember how they did it, kinda lol

They did not use any rattle can clear coat. They used Matte clear and shot it out of a HPLV gun. They did 3 coats

Someone email them, I bet they will tell you or at least tell you the mag in which they did the DIY
