license plate lights
are you allowed to change the lights for the rear license plate i want to change them to blue and i dident know if that was illegal or not if it helps i live in new york thanks alot and if you can what size lights are they
#2
im pretty sure its illegal, i had super bright white and it was not super bright, more like a bluish white. the stockers were brighter and more visable, so the cops wont give me sh*t! Plus my JL 10w6v2 were killing the LED's!

Pretty sure any color except white is illegal. It really all depends on that particular cop that pulls up behind you. I have hyper white LEDs in mine and they give off a blue tint, but no problems yet....knock on wood.
Light size is 168

depends on the state, go to the NY DOT web page and they should have the rules for all that crap(like the above posted) I read over the AZ laws a little while back and found some cool stuff that I though was illegal but wasn't like driving with my fog lights and Angel eyes is Legal under 20mph, but I think you can have white, yellow, orange, and maybe even red
Check with your state codes though, that's the only way to know for sure, cause a cop won't forget about a ticket because someone on SL told you its ok to do something.

Yes, check the local laws, and look for an innocent seeming phrase that says those laws apply except where contradicted by federal law, or that the are in addition to federal law, or something similar. States include that so they can continue to get federal money.
What you see above is a tiny exerpt of the federal laws they are referring to. The ones that take precedence over the state laws.
Those two pages above are from the DOT's FMVSS - Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard - and are the minimum requirements that states then ADD to.
You mention AZ, so here's the AZ law on vehicle light colors:

Since the original question is from NY...

A quick search of ScionLife will find this info from federal law and from a number of states, because the question gets asked over and over and answered over and over. I recall CA, TX, WA, MD, FL and now AZ, and NY being covered, as well as the federal requirements I first posted.
