yeah uh nice attempted justification lol

Attempted justification - I want to know if the EVO's hood has any effect on performance. If it does than this hood is almost justified!

EVO hood is for air going out not air going in

Hot air going out. The vents on the EVO are situated above the header so it keeps engine temperature down.

It's like brake vents that go behind the brakes. The heat generated by the exhaust gas that may affect intake charge density is vented out which could be responsible for a hp or two or three.

A hood with a scoop would create drag while not being especially useful unless the scoop channeled air towards something that really needs cooling like in the WRX and it's top mounted intercooler. The Celica's scoop is pointless for the most part as it channels air to behind the actual engine. You could also have a scoop directing air towards the intake which would probably be worth the most in terms of power but that would also be the worse in terms of hydrolock unless you have some distance between the scoop and the intake.

that's a nice breakdown but seriously this hood looks to vent into the engine compartment as opposed to the EVO hood wich is a flat vent (hot air goes out)

No, if you look at it closely there is a bump immediately before the vent and the actual vent appears to be in a recessed on the hood and flat. I'm fairly sure it's an expulsion vent rather than an intake scoop.

Of course, my power of obersvation has come into question before but I'm pretty sure about this one..

Ralph says, "Lisa, That Hood makes my tummy feel weird"

I'm not feeling that kit at all... There are some real bad lines that pull away from the car's original look... Too each his own, I guess.

Why would you want to remove heat from the engine compartment if there isn't a cooling problem to solve? Doesn't that mean you just need to burn more fuel to maintain operating temperature?

Is there a fundamental misconception about thermodynamics of internal combustion engines here?

Aww, I feel jumped.

The vent will keep the rest of the engine bay cool (theoretically) while the actual engine and its combustion won't/can't be touched - at least not more so than it would normally.

But it's all a moot point I'm sure..

So uhh.... hey moderators.... any chance on a move?

you could reduce minimal weight with the hood... if you wanna justify it that way

CF looks good, doesnt make a big differance in weight (in this instance), so it should be drag

Not to contridict you or anything, but the scoop on the Celica does serve great purpose, its there to direct air to cool down the header, which is located behind the engine, unlike ours which is located in front and as for hydrolocking, your intake would have to be completely submerged under water, so I don't see a vent on the hood causing this, not sure what kind of function this one serves, but I'm going to wait for Street Concepts vented hood.

Nice thought, but the truth is, when a car is having trouble passing smog, they close the hood to raise the engine bay temperature just a little bit and improve thermal efficiency. Besides, I really don't want to cool the exhaust, I just want to keep it from heating up everything around it. I want as much heat as possible to stay in the exhaust to encourage it to move out of the pipe by maintaining energy (read velocity and inertia).

I've actually considered the idea of ceramic coating the OEM header and S-pipe just to see what kind of improvement it makes (and I know it will work better), by keeping the heat in the pipe where it does the most good. But I digress...

Ah! I have always had respect for the Celica's design.

I guess I was looking at a plastic intake manifold and not a coated header heat shield. Difference duly noted - how cool..

I said it'd be the worse for hydrolock. Some people had concerns for a reverse cowl but a scoop would be worse though it'd still be ok. The only thing is that the vacuum could suck water during rain though who knows.
Thanks for the corrections.
