So I have had the same rattle problems as many other tC owners...the hatch rattle, the radio cover rattle ect. I can live with those. However, now I have some new monstrous rattle that I just can't deal with.

It seems to be coming from the left side of my steering wheel or somewhere in that general left area. I can't seem to be able to pinpoint it. I starts at any speed roughly over 60mph and is obnoxiously loud. When im accelerating it briefly stops but as soon as i maintain speed or slow down it rattles like hell. Anybody else have this rattle from hell?

Do you have a CAI??? Could be it tapping against the frame of the car.

Definitely sounds like a CAI rattle. You would be surprised at how something in the engine bay rattling can sound like it's coming from right inside the dash. I thought the same thing when my CAI developed a case of the rattles. Even if you don't have a CAI, check the engine bay.

I don't have a CAI but I did just get the s/c installed. The noise was there prior to the s/c install but it got worse afterwards.

Difficult to say what it could be. Something is loose in there, I would say. Does it only happen at speed, or also at high RPM? Did you try playing around with the RPMs while parked to see if you can recreate the noise? You might be able to maintain a certain RPM where it happens, then you can get a friend to help you find what is moving in the engine. Or does it happen as a result of road vibration?

There is a slight rattle, barely audible, at about 3500rpms (When Im just reving it in neutral). The noise gets very loud when im on the expressway, usuallly anything above 60mph.

And C, yea thats exactly the area it seems to be coming from.

Hmmm, if it happens in motion then it's pretty difficult to pinpoint. It does sound like it might be related to the supercharger somehow. When my intake broke free from its mount, I was able to literally shake it with my hand and I could recreate the same rattle that I was hearing on the highway. You could try the same technique on some of the S/C parts. See if anything is loose enough to move around when you push/pull on the parts. If something is loose like that, you can usually fix it by either tightening or insulating. I fixed a couple of engine rattles with adhesive foam to dampen and absorb the movement.

My experience with diagnosing problems with the dealer has always been negative. I always have more luck doing it on my own. You could have the problem every day for a month, but on the day when you go to the dealer, the problem will magically disappear. It seems like a cliché, but it's true. I was always trying to work with the dealership to diagnose brake problems on my Echo, and it was frustrating as hell. As soon as a mechanic got behind the wheel, the car behaved perfectly. They would always tell me, "oh, it seems fine, it must be your imagination", and then as soon as I started driving back home, the car would start acting up again. Our cars like to torment us.

Hopefully I'll get lucky....that noise is unbareable. If it doesn't get resolved soon, ill record of a vid of it....

Well, I took it to the dealer today and not only was the rattle not that bad (like usual when you go to the dealership with some problem)....the jackass who drove my car hit the rev limiter twice and was power shifting. I finally had to tell him to stop. I am never letting one of those morons drive my car! Im just gona figure out all of my rattle issues myself.
