So I just painted my interior waterfall pieces, and tinted my side markers and tail lights today.
Although, I'm not happy with my tails at all.
They're not shinny at all...I'm confused.
I don't have a buffer..so I tryied waxing it by hand.

let them sit a few days and cure then polish and buff,if no buffer try the Turtle wax synthetic ice polish,it seems to make rocks look shiney,my kid used it on a rock and it looks like a polished rock now......good stuff and cheap and last forever.
here is a picture of ours at FD,Scion put on a car show for us all sucked though the sun never showed up all day, just cloudy......

income tax refund should be going to get stoptechs and finish the rear sway install......still hvae not gotten it done.......gonna keep gettign the Samco hoses through the winter though.
that is the trick we are all trying to figure out,how to geta picture with it showing the color, best bet is a photo shoot from say 2pm -7pm with the car aimed at the sun with the largest body parts you can get reflecting the sun.......hard color to shoot pictures of......
yeah just wetsand it with 1000 grit, should get a dull and grey, then buff it with some rubbing compound, then a nice wax

Would polishing compound or scratch x work as rubbing compound?
I guess I'm going to have to go and break out the buffer and give it a shot.
Haven't done it before.
Have any tips for me?

Also, should it matter which type of clear coat I used?
At first I used acrylic laquer.
Then i found out it wasn't glossy.
So I bought some high gloss issh.
And to my knowledge, i thought the high gloss clear coat would bond to the acrylic laquer.
Correct me if I'm wrong on that.
But it seems like it is a little bit shinier from just going over it with the different clear.

yeah the clear plays a big part, the duplicor acrylic lacquer isnt bad, i used to use it. now i stand by U-POL #1 clear. big ___ orange can...amazing stuff, dries in time to be handled in about 4 hours.
not sure if scratch x or polishing would work, i use 3m rubbing compound, best there is. this is used really to buff it and get that restoration of the nice black color.
To do a set real nice, when i do them for other people i use 3 coats of 3m rubbing compound, 3 coats of meguiars plasticX, and 3 coats of meguaris hi tech yellow wax.
3M restores the color, plasticX gets it nice and smooth, and a decent shine, and the wax well waxes it. gets nice coats of brilliant shine and protection on the light, which you want.
you can get away with skipping the plasticX, but the rubbing compound and wax is essential

well once you get the 3 bottles, they last about 10 tint jobs, so its worth it. this is what i use for a tint
2 vht nite shates = 25 bucks
1 can UPOL #1 clear = 15 bucks
40 for supplies and i charge 40 to do it for people. so 80 they pay. i have a pair of 05-07's i can tint if you want, but i sell those for 130+shipping. 50 for lights and 80 for tinting
but once you have the buffer and 3 bottles, youre good ive had the bottles for over a year

Well, I think I saved them.
I ended up putting more clear coat on them in thicker coats.
I guess that's where I messed up. I didn't put thick enough coats on.
They look very good now!
I just need to buff them later on today when they're done curing!
