Tail light overlay..
i ordered a tail light overlay kit from e-bay, from danno (?), whom i believe has a very good reputation.
the thing is, i totally F---ed it up. i thought it would be easy, but it ended up looking so bad i just ripped it off.
i really want my tails tinted...i couldn't even put on an overlay so i'm assuming i'd f--- up niteshades badly also. is there another way to do it?
thanks

Try headlightarmor.com or rockblocker.com. They both have great how-to's and will help you out. the rockblocker overlays seem to involve no water so it is just start it positioned right and pull away the backing. The headlightarmor.com kit will use water and will take some work with a squeegee.
Nightshades is also not a bad idea. All you have to do is take out the tailights, wash, spray on nightshades, and then spray on clearcoat. Or, you can leave them on the car and tape/newspaper off the whole back end of the car and do it indoors for no overspray. Nightshades might be your best choice.
Hope that helps.

I'm not a huge fan of overlays, cause you can always still notice that they are overlays.... If you want a great looking permanent setup... I go with Jonstintedtails.com.... it's like the LED swap setup... you just make an appointment, send them out and get them back in like three days. He uses professional Paint and clear coat and has been around for years.... DEFINATELY a beautiful option.
I tried using Bat's overlays and messed it up pretty bad too. I guess I wasn't patient enough. I bought a pair of stock taillights off Ebay for about 50 bucks and took my time with Niteshades. Deffinately better looking. Plus you can make 'em DARK.
The key word here is PATIENCE. This is something you can't rush. When I applied my HeadlightArmor.com Headlight Covers, I took my time. It took me almost an hour to install both headlights. (The first one was a @#$%^! The second one was cake after learning how to install on the first.) Yep, I'm a n00b.
Next time if you use overlays, just go slow. You'll be alright.
I feel for you. The problem with the super cheap versions is they are made from sign vinyl - usually 3mil thin - thinner than copy paper. The material is designed to be applied to a vertical flat surface, not a taillight with a compound curve. Our material is 22mil thick and designed to protect your lights while looking good for years.
Here is the DIY we did for smoking your tails with our kit
Yes, as with most things some patience is required. But your patience will be rewarded!
