seriously! it ____es me off to no end. that blows man! 12 hours after delivery?

just from my limited understanding of aerodynamics, my second chip is higher on the windshield so if i understand correctly, there is come pressure on the bottom of the windshield then the top, therefore I might be able to get away with not having it repaired and it shouldnt spread (it is a very minor chip) any one agree?

I don't know if they're really that cheap, I thought it was until 3 days after I bought my car, a huge piece of wood or a rock or something big from a big rig truck flew out of its side and hit my window, it showed some scratches so I got worried, but then it just wiped away with water and paper towel..

I can't imagine how a $150 windshield would be of decent quality...if anyone knows differently, I'd love to hear about it.

if the cracks aren't that big, about the size a quarter or less, they can be repaired... not replaced. I do about 15-20 a week up here.. and I figure roads are bout the same down there right now. if your not sure just go to a auto glass shop and ask. They will tell you yea or neigh. I will warn you thou that there is a chance it could crack in the process. its a very small chance thou.. in the thousands i've done only 1 has ever cracked. I dont know about down there but we charge 50bux for a repair and like 15 for any additional ones. and no... I wouldnt even think about putting in a 150$ windshield. I looked it up and we would charge around 500$ for a aftermarket replacement and 850$ for a factory OEM shield, altough there is no difference between OEM and aftermarket being that the car is so new. Hope this helps.

ok so we narrowed it down... no 150 dollar winshields.... up here in NY they charge 75 bucks to repair a chip. I dont wanna get the smaller, newer one fixed because I dont think its that deep and its high.

is it safe to say that chips that are higher on the windshield are less likely to crack than chips low on the windshield? (more air pressure on bottom of windshield when driving than on top)

From what I've heard air pressure is not a factor on whether or not the chip will grow. What matters is whether or not a little bit of water can get inside it. If it does, the next time the weather is below freezing the water will turn to ice, expanding in the process, and that's what makes the crack grow. Considering this is January, you'll probably want to get them both repaired unless it is so small that theres no way for water to get into it in the first place.

Even if it was the middle of summer, you'd be best off getting them both fixed before the winter...

I have a nice crack in my window and when the light hits the windshield just right you can see a million little dots and cracks all over the windshield.

actually what causes the cracks is heat more then moisture. ones lower on the shield have a tendancy to crack easier because they are coloser to the defroster. I've seen some rock "dings" never crack and stay there for years... but I wouldnt take the chance. The price for windshields for our tC's should go down in the next couple of years... hopefuly.

Here is a place you can check out to protect your windshield- www.diamon-fusionusa.com
we just started selling it at the dealership but I guess it is awsome. When I get a new windshield in my Honda I think I'm going to do it.
Here is some info on it-
Deflects small road debris to reduce damage to glass
Allows insects to be easily washed away
Improves clarity and visibility
makes ice and show much easier to remove
I am not sure what the warranty is but I'm sure that it says on the site.

I think its all on circumstances. I have had chips in all three of my last s-10s, my 91 got one from following a car on a gravel road. my 2000 from a truck on the interstate, and my 03 from a truck on an interstate as well. I don't blame chevy for making cheap windshields. I blames myself for following the vehicles to close. If you follow most vehicles at a safe distance then you will greatly reduce the chance of getting a chipped windshield. Just my .02

so now... following too close can affect chips?? I guess that makes sense because u are not giving the rock a chance to slow down from wind resistance or anything...

true that!

Doesn't matter the vehicle I tend to break at least one per year. Shrug. If you drive fast and have a lot of crap on the roads it is going to happen. Just part o driving.
