I think the tC windshield is quite strong. Yesterday I a rock came up off the road that was about the size of a baseball and hit my windshield. It scared the crap out of me. It hit and barely cracked the windshield. I was actually quite impressed by how strong the windshield actually was. On a bad note, now I hafta get a new windshield. I have glass coverage so I don't hafta pay a cent.

Last month i had to replace my windshield, i shopped around for quotes, and found the prices to be about the same wherever i went. I ended up paying around $400 at Glass Doctor, they replaced it with an OEM fit american made windshield.

is there anything you can put on the windshield to make them tougher?
anyone else having the same problem?

i'm in NY so in the winter i know cold weather and rocks flying at the windshield increase the possibility for a chip. BUT COME ON!
Kinda LAME to target Scion for flying objects that hit and chip your Windshield it happens to ANY kinda of car w/ a windshield!!...so yea..you should change the title of this topic!

Default windshield chips

If you have a chip in the windshield take it to a glass place and get it drilled and filled and it wont spread any further. It costs about $35 to get it done and some insurance companies pay for it 100% so as to not have to pay for a new windshield

Yeah, this thread is stupid. I've had windshields crack on all kinds of cars - usually when following one of those big loader trucks with crap falling out of the back.
If you give yourself more distance between you and the cars ahead, you lessen your chances of cracks/breaks.
The way people drive here in LA, they're about 2 feet behind you going 80MPH. Shocking that it might get cracked...not.

Cant really avoid that. Mine has been hit hard .. actually more like machine gunned A truck hauling rocks at 70 mph with a loose tarp dropped an @ss load of gravel in front of me.. spraying my front end and windshield with a lot of large gravel.. sounded like the windshield was in for it. No chips, scratches, etc.. just a broken fog light.

All cars can have the glass cracked. If you have good insurance (in MN for example, you have to have full glass) you will have no deductable.. so make them pay for the more expensive factory glass. It will last longer and wont chip or crack as easilly.

But yeah.. a lot of young people with thier first or second car blame everything in the world on the car. It is ridiculous.

i concur. if you get chips - fix them before they trun into cracks. by the way - oem windshields are way better than aftermarket. plus your rates will increase if u try to put them on your insurance unless you have certain coverage.

we just started selling it at the dealership but I guess it is awsome. When I get a new windshield in my Honda I think I'm going to do it.
Here is some info on it-
Deflects small road debris to reduce damage to glass
Allows insects to be easily washed away
Improves clarity and visibility
makes ice and show much easier to remove
I am not sure what the warranty is but I'm sure that it says on the site.
yep, i got diamon fusion. it is fantastic.
it fills all the pores and crevices in the glass. makes it much stronger and makes the glass smooth (microscopically, glass is not smooth). it's a process with gas and a torch and only certain places are qualified to do it.
stronger against rocks and road debris, and comes with a 4 year warranty on chips in the windshield. which is why i got it. the by-product of this silky smoothness is that it is like having permanent RainX...i can drive 40mph or more in the rain without wipers...literally the water just sheets off. unless its a torrential downpour, wipers just get in the way with this stuff.

I have to have mine replaced, but it is totally common here in Az with the higher freeway speeds and debree flying at higher speeds. I had 7 windshieds in my subaru, 3 in my nissan frontier, 3 in my fx16 gts and 2 in my corolla gts. "another in the corolla schedualed to be done this week"

The rock that hit my tc was the size of a tennis ball, I am suprised it did the little damage it did. It did not even star or split! Just made a huge impack crater *LOL* I was actually impressed the way the windshield held up.

It's actually a law in Florida that if anything happens to your windshield insurance must replace it at no cost to you.

The tC is about the 6th car I've owned and the second I've had to replace the windshield on. The first chip was a big rock at 80 MPH. It looked like you shot the windshield with a pellet gun. Before I got that fixed, I got hit with a pebble...I heard the tiniest little ping, and withing seconds I had a 6" crack in the glass. I wondered about the quality, too. The Scion windshield is like $885! I have $500 comp deductible, so I got an aftermarket windshield installed for $325.

Yup, can't be driving around with a broken windshield now can we?

As for the OP I guess some people believe when they buy a new car it comes bulletproof from the factory. If you drive it daily, you're going to get dings, scrapes, and most commonly chipped paint/glass. If you want to preserve the "newness" of the car, cover it up, keep it in a garage and don't DRIVE IT! I was the same way at first, the first day I picked it up and drove it home I noticed a nice little chip on the doorsill. It bothered me for days until I noticed another chip, and another, and another. Then I just accepted it as a fact of owning a car that you drive almost everyday on the highway, sharing the road with gravel trucks, semis, and other vehicles in general that kick up crap on your car. I mean try to avoid damage to your car's exterior as best as you can, but don't lose sleep over it. Just look at other newer cars that have smashed in front ends or huge dents in the body and realize it could be a lot worse.

yeah i know a place that did that too. but it is for cars that don't travel much. the problem with the film is that it will eventually get ratty and/or yellow and need to be replaced. plus there isn't much strength.
go with diamon fusion instead.
