Default Time to shave the antenna?

I've really been wanting to get the antenna shaved on my car recently, but I've never done anything like that before. I know there's a handful of people on here that have shaved antennas, so I'm curious about it. If someone could explain how one goes about the process, that would be really great.

Also, I saw a some guy back into a parked car today. Would be funny, but he backed into an '06 Azure Pearl Scion tC with 3,386 miles on it. But I got his insurance, blah blah blah. I've heard that after shaving the antenna, you have to get that entire panel repainted. And if I'm getting my bumper repainted, I might as well get the fender repainted at the same time for convenience's sake.

So...what do I need and how do I go about shaving my antenna?

If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be attempting to DIY.

cut out a circle of sheet metal and weld it into the hole (for support). smooth with body filler.

that's the short and simple explanation.

The body shop I get it repainted at should be able to do that, right? So all I would need to do is install a hidden antenna beforehand. Just looking around I found:

I'm just checking here first to really learn how to do this correctly before I start pulling my trunk apart.
