Default Toothpaste Method

Hi everyone. I am in the market for aftermarket headlights, but I can't find any reviews or recommendations on which headlights to buy. Anyway, the reason I want to replace them is to get a cool aftermarket look, light upgrade, and my stock lights had a pretty bad oxidation. If anyone has any suggestions or links to aftermarket headlight reviews that would rock! So, in the mean time I tried the toothpaste and windex method. Here are my results:

Nice job. I actually did this was just a buffer and some mothers wax on my friends RSX headlights that were cloudy like crazy.

Go pick the kit in the following link at Walmart or something for about 20 bucks. It worked pretty well on my car. I used it on my sister's Corolla that were so bad that you almost couldn't see through them. They looked almost brand new when I was done.

I read great reviews on an Infiniti G35/37 forum about Meguiar's PlastX, so I bought it from Amazon for $6. Used it on my lightly oxidized headlights with a power drill buffing pad attachment. Made my headlights lights look new.

Never heard of the toothpaste trick. Might have to try that sometime.

Nearly any cleaning agent will help, most important thing is elbow grease. Meguiars scratch X, Ultimate compound, Plastic X, Rain X, toothpaste etc.......they all will remove oxidation, problem is they continues to oxidize. Can't figure why some lenses remain clear when others deteriorate?? Happens even to same models, same years?

from my experience I noticed oxidation occurs faster on cars parked outdoors (versus enclosed 1-3 car garage at home) and in the sun daily. I don't have a scientific explanation, but that's what I noticed on my friends and family's cars. My experience is based on Southern California climate, so perhaps that isn't the case in northern climates.

I once read the fluctuation in temperatures (cold at night to direct sun in day) contributes, but I don't know if that's true.

That's very possible. For me at least, it's hard to tell how my family's vehicles were taken care of (or stored) by the previous owners. Thanks for the input.
