I tried searching first but couldn't come up with anything. That might have to do with I just don't know how to describe this part really well or what to search for...

So I had some noise coming from what sounded like inside the dash, near the base of the windshield. It was a rattling and a ping that would happen when taking turns. Sounded like something was loose and sliding back and forth and it turns out that's exactly what it was. I removed the trim around the windshield wiper motor housing and found this pieces loose in the metal tray on the passenger side. It looks like it was attached with adhesive that came loose. This is a 2007 tC.

I got it re-attached but am just really curious what this piece is for. It's about an 1/8" thick and seems like a gasket or padding type of material. It doesn't seal anything though and nothing rests on it. It really serves no apparent purpose that I can tell and even the parts guy at my dealer has no idea. Anyone know?
