3rd gear problems.
I have experienced the same problem. I have also sometimes had it grind into 2nd too. It's not that I havent been pressing the clutch in all the way, I always make sure i feel the floor when i press in the clutch.
Like Kris5597, i have only had this problem on colder days, and after the car warms up or it is warmer, the problem disappears.

I think the problem definatly is a result of colder weather, like others have mentioned - once it warms up the problems go away. I'm going to change my fliuds tomorrow and I'll post back with a response.
I've also heard from quite a few people that royal purple makes their car grind. I have RP now and I'll be changing it out for something better.

i was having the same problems with 3rd gear, this isnt relation with weather. I live in Puerto Rico(here cold weather is not cold) and my car when cold engine was doing the grind when shift to 3rd. I talk with my tuner friend about the problem and told me "OIL" I was around 41,000 miles, the Scion manual recomends 36,000 m/t I changed and the problems is gone since that and now I do it every 25,000m.
Its ok to change your oil, with the Royal Purple Max-Gear 75-90 that I mention you still in the same oil weight that is recomended by Toyota. You can use your preference brand. If you never change your m/t fluid this is the first thing you need to do. If you have a major transmission problem, probably you will notice in the used oil.
Ok --- I have changed my oil... WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!
Problems:
#1. I was getting stuck in 1st geat at low RPMS
#2. Couldnt put it into any gear on a cold start
#3. Hardest time shifting into 3rd, had to wait for RPMs to completetly drop to get into gear.
These were the conditioins of an 08 turbo tc with a comp clutch and light weight flywheel after bout 20k miles on it. The last 10k Miles were running Royal Purple Max-Gear 75-90.
A few days ago i switched to Motul Gear Oil (http://customizemyscion.com/store/in...roducts_id=265)
Day 1. Smoother shifting, still not much better
Day 2. Can get into geat on a cold start, no longer sticking in second
Day 3. Tranny is working normally again. Happy as can be!
I used 3 Quarts of this oil, and along with the purchase of Motul Synthetic motor oil i got free shipping (coupon code freeoil). What a deal! I reccomend this to anyone who is having tranny problems!
