Default Another new problem!-shifting is a pain!

ok, so i had a thread up a while back about my clutch engagement being really low to the floor making it hard to drive. got great feed back and fixed the problem.

but now, another problem has arisin...the car just doesnt wana shift. from any one gear to the other it feels like i have to push the shifter in, it doesnt just go on its own...i have the megan short shifter and in my old car it shifted like stock...and my friend justin(weezyfbayba) has the same short shifter. and his shifts like its nothing, u just touch the shifter and it goes in.

now he also just installed a CC stage 4 clutch in his car...and he says it feels WAY easier to engage the my ACT stage 2...which u think would be the other way around. and like i said, his car shifts just fine...my clutch grabs and all that...but i think when it was installed something went wrong or wasnt done right...ive heard about the gear SYNCHROS or whatever their called...maybe thats the problem. i duno.

but if anyone has any idea as to whats going on, please fill me in.

greatly appreciated,
MaTT

Well the obvious thing to ask would be when is the last time you changed the transmission oil and what kind did you use?

Also if it's the synchros and it's not popping out of gear then does the stick vibrate (no pun intended ) when in gear? that's usually a sign of a bad synchro. And did this problem occur AFTER you installed the short shifter? or did you have the short shifter for awhile and this just happened recently?

Oh and one other question. Is it that way in all gears or just one or 2? (i.e. only hard to shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd)? I know you said shifting to any gear it's difficult but I just want to be sure..if it's all gears then I highly doubt it's the synchros because it is highly unlikely that all of them would at once but I suppose it is possible.

well the clutch and flywheel was installed by the guy i bought the car from in california at his performance shop...my friend justin said a tranny fluid swap to something better may help. and i plan on doing that tomorrow...and it doesnt shake all the time, but if i notice sometimes in 5th gear when i grab it to down shift, theres a slight shutter. but its very faint.

the car had an ARK short shifter in it when i got it, and we swapped the megan immediately, so i dont remember if it did it with the one it origionaly had. but its been like this since ive been driving it

Ok...well if the trans fluid doesn't do the job check the shift linkage cables (i'm pretty sure you have to take those off to an install an SSK on a tC right?) and see if maybe you might have put those back wrong. But definitely try to the trans fluid first.

ok so we tried bleeding the slave cylinder, thinking maybe when the clutch was done it was taken off and some air got in the lines...but that didnt help with the stifness of the clutch.

i purchased some new tranny fluid today, didnt have time to drain it and put it in though...if it doesnt work i may also try the doc ISO shifter cable bushings. but well see how the fluid swap goes first.

Good luck with this man. I have an 09 tC with 20k miles that just had the transaxle replaced(the original had bad synchros) but even with the new transaxle installed the car still clunks and is sometimes hard to engage. I suspect there is an issue with the clutch master or the shift linkages may have been damage by the high effort needed to engage gears on the old transaxle.

Have any of you seen a case of damaged linkages on a tC?
