Default CEL...

question.

Since I do have an aftermarket header...I hear about everyone going out of their way to get ridda that CEL...

Now is the CEL just an annoying light that comes on because the car doesnt recognize no cat? or is it really something you need to get rid of? if so why?

sorry if this is a noob question

It comes on if you replace the stock airbox too. So just reset it and it shouldn't come back.

Not true -- it comes on because the 02 sensor on the down-pipe is reading higher volumes of air -- You need an antifouler.

Air box = Intake
Headers = Exhaust

Not the same systems.

^^ yeah.. the only time a CEL will turn on when you mess with your intake... is if you MESS up...

resetting it without fixing the problem will ensure it coming back.

Default cel fix

I have been reading all ur posts since i installed my DME header. All the tips n triks to eliminate cel, even bought an anti fouler for 50bucks and still a cel, so WHATEVER! How many times can i go under the car? Ill sell the DME header n buy a TRD. That should fix it.

When did TRD come out with a header? That's news to me. Anyways, there's a thread on here about a guy cutting out part of a soda can and using it along with the anti-fouler method. There's also a thread that explains that in detail. I have the DME header and used the anti-fouler mod and never had a CEL. If that didn't work, I was gonna bite the bullet and get the WR CEL Eliminator, and go against my bad feelings about them (I have their intake and I hate it). But yeah try the anti-fouler mod. If you do it right, it will work.

okay...you guys seem kinda clueless...

okay, your stock exhaust has in this order, a primary o2 sensor, a catalytic convertor, and a secondary o2 sensor in the s-pipe.

the primary 02 sensor measures a/f ratios and makes corrections to the engine timing.

then, the secondary o2 sensor reads the exhaust emissions after the catalytic convertor so see if the catalytic convertor is doing its job.

now, when you replace your header, you won't have a cat, and if your secondary o2 sensor will let you know with a CEL.

this has ABSOLUTELY ZERO EFFECT ON YOUR MPG because the engine has already done its job mixing the air and fuel, and igniting.

HOWEVER, if you damage the primary o2 sensor during removal and reinstallation of the the header, and it can no longer do its job, reading the a/f ratios, this too will cause a CEL, but this will result in your tc going into "limp mode", where it will run really rich, adding alot of fuel to make sure you don't detonate. this is what will cause you to get a CEL, and terrible gas mileage.

and i mean you dont technically HAVE to remove the light but if something else were to go wrong that would set this light off, you wouldnt know because it's already on
