CEL?
ok im about to get a intake for my 09 tC.. im reading all this stuff every where about the CEL light turning on and staying on? is this true? Is there anything you can do to turn it off for good? i dont want my brand new trd tC to have a CEL light on!
okay, basic instructions for installing a cold air intake.
1. disconnect battery (lots of people don't and then short out their MAF which is dumb and very expensive part to replace.
2. remove stock intake assembly, be very careful with the maf sensor and make sure you don't get it get dirty as this can also cause a CEL.
3. install cold air intake. pay close attention to instructions, diagrams and torque specs, make sure everything is tight and no air leaks, properly reinstall MAF sensor.
4. double check your work, make sure everything looks, and then reconnect the battery.
5. start car and let it idle for 10 minutes so it can adjust to the new air flow through the CAI.
6. DO NOT FREAK OUT AND POST ON HERE THAT NOW YOUR WINDOW SWITCHES AND SUN ROOF SWITCHES DON'T WORK. they need to be reprogrammed, which is pretty much done by holding down each of the buttons for like 5 seconds straight or whatever. the owner's manual tells you. it has to be done everytime you disconnect the battery and needs to be reconnected.

The only intake people were having problems with CEL codes was the Fujita and I think the Tenzo intake? and with the Fujita ones I think it was just the earlier models. Otherwise as long as everything is properly installed you won't have an issue..had my injen for over 2 years now and no issues..
Yea I think fujita had a problem because the whole thing was 3" so it was too big for the MAF senor to read the air flow right. So they made it like the injen and drop the MAF section down to 2.5". I think that was it.
im gunna the injen intake but im not sure if i want chrome or if i want black..my whole car is black due to being a rs5.0..so im thinking the black one might be too much black??
I had on 07' fujita intake, first had no problems at all except that the holes to screw the maf on were off by a very small margin. I got hit and after the body shop put it back together i threw a CEL, code was for the maf. Tried replacing it, didn't work, heard about the diameter issue with fujita intakes so i sent the maf section back. They sent me the replacement with the smaller maf section..... it also threw the maf cel. I tried something suggested by one of the guys in my scikotcs chapter, I got a tube of clear silicone and removed the maf and lined the hole on the intake where the maf goes in, reamed out the holes where the screws go into the maf, reinstalled the maf and drew a bead of silicone areound the maf and let it dry..... bye-bye cel, and it has never returned.
So If you get a cel cause of a cai, try sealing it with silicone.
