If you remove the springs, you can crack welds in the exhaust or on the header. The springs are there to help absorb engine movement. They keep it sealed while allowing it to move when the engine rocks back and forth during start-up, and acceleration.

I will jack up the company car asap... but I think we removed the springs on the s-pipe all together and used the new bolts... Sorry I don't have an answer right now but I know our test pipe is on the car still with the alphawerks header and no exhaust leaks.

I didnt think the header could move since it is bolted to those brackets.

Thanks James, the way i have it now i don't have any leaks, but the springs are fully and compressed and now dont serve their purpose... so I was just wondering if it would be a problem to just take the springs off.

Thanks for all of the help guys!

maybe not the header welds since it is bolted to the brackets. The force has to go somewhere though. If you remove the cushion, it puts that pressure on the welds of the flange which will stress and over time break. Just like if you keep bending a piece of metal it eventually breaks.

New question... Sorry guys LOL but i was checking over all the bolts on the s-pipe and noticed that the s-pipe/exhaust has a tiny leak in it. Can i unbolt it and reuse the gasket or do i need a new one? If i need a new one can i get one from autozone? Thanx
