I own a 2008 tc and recently started getting what I would call "knocking" from the engine bay. Under hard acceleration it is very noticeable clicking, knocking or what have you coming from the engine bay.

Could it be just as simple a knock sensor? I run 87-89 octane and Techron Fuel System cleaner every oil change.

How much is a knock sensor approx. and any recommendations on repair places in Brooklyn, NY?

Car has 48,000+ miles on it. All routine maintenance done at dealer except for most recent oil changes.

No mods, never been modded. Well other than the axle-back I suppose, but that is of no relevance here.

No intake, no FI ... stock.

 

Cut open your oil filter next oil change and look for debris in the filter element and in the bottom of the filter after you pull the element out.

 

I am going to an oil change in the morning, so if I find mass debris this would spell bad news I am assuming?

I have used synthetic for the last 3 oil changes, Mobil 1 to be exact.

 

i would try resetting the ecu by disconnecting the battery.

but you are still under the powertrain warranty, so i would take it to the dealership.

Or wait, would this be considered powertrain? If so, then yes it is under warranty until 60K correct?

 

60 power trane.......take it in,might jsut be a sensor,be sure to use 87 ocatane,any higher octane is worthless,car cannot light it up even 89 can be too much and cause knocking due to lack of lighting properly.

 

I dont have much faith in a dealership, they try really hard to stick it to ya. I would cut the filter and If i found anything I would have it in hand when I rolled into the dealer.
