Exhaust smell in oil?
Been checking my oil in my 07 tC lately b/c at the latest oil change I switched it from Mobil 1 to Royal Purple, which I plan to continue to use, and was looking to make sure no sludge and weird coatings were happening to my internals and such. Atleast there are some rumors that it may do that but oh well. Topic at hand however, I shined a flashlight through the oil adding hole in the VC and observed, looked really clean
Then a I cranked her up for a few mins and just let her idle so that some oil could get sloshed around the top of the case so I could see how well it was draining back down to the oil pan. What I got was nice looking oil drainage but some weird vapor, looked to be like a fine mist coming up out of the hole and smelt like exhaust. I drive my tC pretty hard, I'll admit it, and I'm pretty sure its blow by gasses, but are you suppose to smell that even when the engine is just idling? Doesn't seem like it was being strained enough to allow the gasses to escape. Any opinions on this? Maybe a possibility the rings aren't seated properly? Thx for any help given.

um...WOW...not sure why SL did not post up my reply to the first person to reply but it didnt. Here is what I said. In order of events. Went out to my car to take off plastic engine cover to check out how many bolts and studs hold on the valve cover since I'm taking it off soon. While I had the plastic off I was like hmm I'll check for sludge buildup or white waxing coatings so I took the oil cap off and shined a flashlight in and looked at what I could. Nothing. So I thought, its been 5 hrs since I came home, I'll crank her up let her get oil up the top again and make sure its smooth and doesnt have stuff in it. So I put the oil cap back on, I'm not about to let it sling oil all over my engine bay, and cranked her up for about 2-3 mins. All that happened was she was idling. That's it, no revving, nothing. Turned her off and then took the cap off again and look inside, oil looked nice, kinda dark golden brown, but there was this weird vapor mist coming up out of the hole, you could see it very well with the flashlight since it was dark outside. I got the brilliant idea to breath a good bit of it in to smell it and it smelt like exhaust gas. I know vapor and blow by get pass the rings, my worry is this, is that much suppose go get by at idle which is like 500-700 for my car? I mean I wouldn't think so, thats why I'm asking people that are knownledgable about engines to let me know whats going on. She just turned over 94** today on the way home from work, and driven kinda hard, but I just want to know if this is normal under all engine running operations or if its possible my piston rings didnt set right during the break in time and is allowing more gas to go by than normal. I mainly say that b/c I didn't exactly follow the break in procedures, IE, high revving(not enough for the rev limiter to kick in), took her up to 90mph once or twice, drove pretty much about 1hr a day with the revs at about 3200rpm (1hr broken into to so 30 mins one way). Thanks for the help guys.
really sepatc? do you think they'll break it down and check everything? and if they do will it be under warranty and free labor? I'm temped to just let it be and if it goes within the next 5 yrs since i have the 6yr warranty then it'll be replaced anyway. I doubt my CAI and exhaust have anything to do with it so they cant use that as an excuse.

Sarcasm from Greek σαρκασμός (sarkasmos), 'mockery, sarcasm' is sneering, jesting, or mocking a person, situation or thing. It is strongly associated with irony, with some definitions classifying it as a type of verbal irony intended to insult or wound[1] — stating the opposite of the intended meaning, e.g. using "that's fantastic" to mean "that's awful". It is used mostly in a humorous manner, and is expressed through vocal intonations such as over-emphasizing the actual statement or particular words. Use of sarcasm is sometimes viewed as an expression of concealed anger[2] or annoyance.
i was just kidding man. theres nothing wrong with your car. if there was, you would feel/hear/see it. stop sticking your nose into the valve cover.
but seriously, (so long as your not boosted) the motor is the one part of the car you will not have to worry about.
