damn your motor sounds healthier than mine except for that clicking...... yea sounds nasty, like i said make sure your oil isnt penutbuttery anymore and drive it for 50 miles with seafoam in the oil.....then oilchange

THAT doesn't sound so good - and it was studdering a little too? If it still makes a clicking noise when you slowly rev the engine then I would say you did some damage to the engine when you sucked in that water. Next thing would be a compression test on all cylinders and check for coolent leaks and coolent loss. There are some control valves in the engine compartment that click to regulate the idle but that sounds more like a piston knock or valve noise. The only way to tell is to compare it to the engine rotation - if it clicked every other rotation it is valve because they open every other rotation, if it clicks every rotation it is piston or rod.

Couple of things happen when cold water hits a hot engine . . . you cool parts off really quick and the hottest things in the engine are the spark plug center electrodes and exhaust valves. Plugs you can check - valves and vlave seats could be an issue and a compression test will check that. Another way to check for probelms with valve is to check the valve lifter clearances - a bit more work to do that. The other thing that happens is hydralic lock and that usually strains the connecting rod and pistons and usually the rings on the pistons will crack or the groove they are mounted in will crack or become damaged. Bent rods will make knocking noises and can result in lower oil pressure sometimes depending upon how they are pressure lubricated. Ring damage will result in lower compression testing pressure and scoring of the cylinder walls with continued use and lead to more oil burning and blowby. That damage can be checked with an optical bore scope through the spark plug hole.

Well - drive it easy and see if the noise gets worse - if you really did any of the above damage the noise will get worse and more damage will occure - if it is just some water in the oil not lubricating a valve lifter then the problem will go away once the engine runs a while and the motor clicking will stop. You can either run it and see what happens or take it apart and look for damage - either way if something is broken it will cost a lot to fix. And it will cost a little more to fix if you drive it with something broken which does more damage if it should fail. A broken ring will chew up the cylinder a little and that can be honed out but a bent rod that finally breaks will often punch a hole through the block (not good) but usually it will make a lot more noise before that happens unless you rev the engine too high or give it too much (a lot of) gas.

You just changed the oil so I would say drive it easy for a while and check the oil - if you see metal flakes in the oil then stop driving it.

You probably just got lots of water in the motor, in which case multiple oil changes one after the other is in order. Run it very easy for a hundred miles, change the oil, repeat. After about 3 times of that if its still making noise take it to a shop - theres something broken.

still lol @ your filter out in the open like that, no fenderliner, and you driving it in the rain. No offense but if you dont know much about motors and stuff, you shouldnt be modding your car. At least not in the engine bay. Lesson learned

What he said x2 . . . It is called an AIR intake and you wouldn't want to breath that air into you lungs either so why subject your engine to it.

Default same problem

yea i have the same problem....:/ rained real hard this sunday and my intake sucked up water i guess and my engine shut off right away...then i had to crank it to get out of the intersection of traffic...now i got it towed home and it cranks up with a little rev on the gas...i did that for a while to evaporate the water assuming i sucked up a little of water...then later that night I took out the spark plugs and did not notice any water...now my vsc, trac, and engine light is on...plus driving is rough out....it jerks a lot...like a go kart...exaust pipes is vibranting crazy and idle does not sound normal at all....sighhhhhh i am sad

this thread is fantastic. idk why but its really amusing.
hopefully you can get it all fixed, dont cheap out or be lazy with what everyone is telling you right now because it will save your motor in the long run.

btw your engine sounds horrible hahaha
