How high does water have to be to kill engine?

Never assume the water won't get into your engine.
If you have an intake that takes air from low down you should be extra careful if you go through puddles.

Don't worry about vacuuming though, if you remove the spark plugs and crank it the water will come out just fine.
The damage comes from the fact that water doesn't compress. Your engine tries to compress the water but it can't, so parts bend and break. Removing the spark plugs allows the water to escape instead of being stuck in the cylinder.

you'll be fine...your car should detect water inside your intake really quick.

by experience im a dumbas* cai with no bypass valve bent a rod ran like ____ for a week just about to get a build and the rod went through the block without getting on it fml it was sad. bought a 30k motor for 1500 and install myself horrible i was angry im dumb but o well you learn....puddle was on the HIGHWAY and my car was on trd springs and i had my guards still in the fenders . way before i slammed it

yea im from houston too and drove through some water but what sucked is that when i got home it was fine i wake up to my car full of water... i have pics. and my car is running weird.





yes it is filled with water..

That sucks... did that just happen today? I know there was heavy rain this morning in Houston. I was stuck on the freeway for 3 hours. Hopefully insurance will help you out.
