How to "remote start" a tC:

- Yell at friend/sibling/slave
- Give them the keys
- Tell them to start the car for you.

Since we are talking about remote starts. I have a friend that accidently lefted in 1st gear facing downhill in his driveway. His front end was dented and whole garage door broken.

I know it's easy to convince one self to say that you will never leave it in gear. But it's so easy to leave it in gear sometimes that you don't remember. And whenever you go to remote start the engine, you will be paranoid and second guessing yourself to see if you lefted in neutral or in gear.

It's really not worth it in manual transmissions. Automatic is a different story.

My friend was actually glad he wasn't parked on the street when he lefted in 1st gear. He rather dent his own car then someone elses car.

Just take it to an installer, stop being cheap! It'll cost you more to fix if you mess something up. My Avital 2-way LCD Alarm & Autostart took me about 2-3 hrs to install. Longgggggggggggggggggggggggggg wait.

Nobody can tell you on a forum how to do it... thats what we're trying to tell you. If you have never done a remote start before, doing one on a manual tC IS NOT THE PLACE TO LEARN HOW TO DO IT. Listen to me, I'm an installer and have done this... Take it to some local mom and pop shop and grease their palms enough and they'll do it. If I was local to you, I'd do it but I'm not. If you attempt this yourself, you could really screw stuff up... Frying an ECM or BCM will most likely cost you close to $1000 to replace. Take my warnings...

GL dood, hope your insurance is paid and you have another car to drive hile it's in the shop. i kow i have forgotten that it's in gear plenty of times, i almost ran my gf over cuz i let my foot off the clutch, to move my laptop off the front seat and in to the back. it was pretty funny, she about wet herself. except with remote start, you wont be there to stop it. and instead of jumping and stalling, the starter will pull it a good distance.

It is nice to have it while it hot or snowing outside but it'll be much easier and less responsible on automatic than manual. My friend had it on his manual Honda civic and he forgot to put it on neutral. His car end up hitting the curb and hit other car on the street. Do what you think its best.

Good Luck
I only start the car when i was the last one driving, and rarely(I MEAN RARELY) does anyone else drive it, i have taught myself over 3 years of driving stick to not leave it in gear, ive been driving stick for 3 years, never had an automatic

topcivic, i got a friend that works at best buy he can get a DEI diagram, if you dont want to wait then go to bulldog.com and check out their vehicle diagrams, its not for the prestige, but it will let you know what wire needs to be connected where, and usually almost all alarms are the same,

do you have the diagram that came with your alarm??

I wasnt trying to give you a dumb comment. I was actually giving you a smart one. & the smart idea is just taking it to an installer.

as long as you don't come crying when you start your car one morning and it crashes into something.

the wiring diagrams were already easily available for you to download, so i dunno what more you would need except a step-by-step pictorial of what to do..

i could care less.... hmmph..

and btw, no one likes to read a big blob of a sentence that you wrote. it makes no sence.

i'm done.

wow people getting their panties in a bunch, jeez the guy asked for help, not criticism,

topcivic i think you didnt connect the tach wire, or oil pressure sensor wire, which would make it start and then turn right back off

Well, we offered him advice on the subject matter & most, if not everyone said dude its not a good idea to install it yourself, if you dont know what your doin you can mess something up that can be costly. He came back at us with "i'm not lookin for dumb comments". SO basically he's saying our advice is dumb. Who would want to help someone like that?

Wow, you don't know anything either!! There is no "oil pressure sensor wire" to hook up for a remote start. I love how people love to give misinformation. If it turns on but doesn't crank, then you have not hooked up the second starter wire correctly or your immobilizer bypass is not correct, you also need to program the unit for tach or voltage sense, depending on how you installed it.

tach or voltage sense is what i meant, and on some alarms i also saw something about oil pressure sensor, its to let the alarm know that the car has started, and for it to stop trying to start the car, if it does not have that wire connected then the alarm will think that it never started.

so it stops all power, and tries the whole start process again, ignition 1&2 ACC 1&2 so on and so forth, i may not be an installer at best buy or something like that, but i do have an idea about what im doing MR, I INSTALL ALARMS ALL DAY

I've worked with almost all brands of remote starts and never has one had anything to do with Oil Pressure. Sorry, but you are wrong on that. Remote starts work off of tach signal or voltage sense to let the unit know whether or not the vehicle has started. I'm not trying to be a d1ck but get your facts straight before you give out information. Oh and I'm not an installer at Best Buy, I'm MECP certified, which means that the Consumer Electronics Commission says I know my ****.

Installing remote starts kits in manuals is safe if you don't have the clutch switch permanently grounded. I know it needs to be grounded for the remote start to work, but if you have some kind of block that can be wedge in between the clutch pedal and switch, it should remote start find with the block depressing the clutch switch. Just remember to put the tranny in neutral after wedging the block under the dash for a safe setup. It isn't practical but it's definitely better than finding your car somewhere else, maybe in a ditch or up against someones parked car, after remote starting it.

I have a stick that's equipt with a remote start system and this safe setup works for me. There was a few times when I left my tranny in gear and forgot to wedge the block on my clutch switch. Tried remote starting (RS) my car the next morning and my parking lights flashed, confirming the RS command, but the starter never engaged.

So, almost every night, I do this safe setup before arming my alarm:

1. wedge block on clutch switch
2. put gear into neutral.
3. lock doors.
