tpr mag also did the same thing with a bunch of short ram and cai intakes. included are the weapon r short ram, the injen short ram and cai, and the K&N.
http://www.tprmag.com/issue/1/ca-injen2.shtml
didnt read to see which car they did this on, but the weapon r did better than the K&N when the K&N was converted to short ram. the injen short ram did better than the weapon r, and the injen 2 piece CAI did better than the 1 piece as well as the K&N typhoon. the weapon r short ram had only a .2 peak hp diff than the K&N CAI. and this wasn't the weapon r sec weapon i don't think. didn't look like it, but maybe that was just the pic.

i think i made the right choice with the weapon r-at 6000 rpm the weapon r had the highest hp gain-7.4hp. at 5500 rmp the weapon r had the 3rd higest gain behind the DC and the AC auto, neither of which is available for the tc. not only that, but i got the ram air kit for it and now that they've added the cold air box the weapon r is looking better and better. their results without the ram air kit obviously already are showing that weapon r intakes aren't just competitive, they're actually pretty good. now add the cold air box and the ram air kit, the weapon r should probably beat most of the competition. i'm trying to find out from the magazine if the weapon r they tested was the secret weapon of the dragon. if that was the dragon intake then all i have to say is WOW-the secret weapon is supposed to be so much better than that one.

couple of things-although the car isn't a tc obviously, at least this shows that weapon r isn't the crappy company many people are claiming. from my experience with weapon r products and from speaking to the people at weapon r, they're products are good, the people are really helpful and pretty nice. second-this also shows that although many people say that a short ram won't give the performance of a CAI because ur drawing in air from the engine bay which is hot, these results show otherwise(not only is short ram not so bad, the injen short ram got better numbers than their 2 piece CAI which is the same type seen on the injen tc CAI). so for those of us who are worried about hydrolocking because of the areas where we live, we now have a viable and dyno tested alternative. third, i just found out that this dyno of the weapon r was indeed the DRAGON INTAKE-the second best weapon r intake. here's a copy of the email i sent to the guys at tprmag and their response:

It was the Dragon Intake, we tested the Secret Weapon at a later date.
Thank -you for your question,
Greg
i'm e-mailed them back and am waiting for them to give me results of the secret weapon. i believe that since the secret weapon is supposed to be an even better intake than the dragon that we'll be even happier with the results. i asked them to send me the results from the secret weapon intake, all i can say is i can't wait to see the results. as i mentioned earlier, adding on the cold air box and the ram air kit, the weapon r secret weapon should hands down beat the rest of these guys. so although the injen short ram did hit a higher peak rpm, they beat the dragon intake, and not the secret weapon. also, u gotta remember-the injen short ram is only now coming available for the tc while the secret weapon has been available for months. i couldnt be more thrilled.

All that really shows is how close all the companies that make our intakes are. You really cant go wrong with any of the big name brands. You really arent gaining or losing with one or the other so go with what you like. I like how they go to the 1/10 hp. Like .4 hp is going to make me choose on over another.
If the prices are analogous I will go with whatever intake gave me max performance over the usual range of rpmz. Sorry instigator, I do agree that the intakes are fairly close, but as a tuner (from newb to otaku), max performance for the most reasonable cost is your top concern. 2nd place is the first loser in a race.
