Just curious if anyone is running a lightweight flywheel? I'm in the midst of gathering parts for my 5 speed swap (basically need a clutch and flywheel), and was looking for some input from those who have one?

I had a light flywheel on my old bimmer, but it chattered HORRIBLY. If I let off the throttle while cruising on the highway, or used cruise control, it sounded like there was a handful of sockets in my transmission.

Is this the case for ALL lightweight flywheels? if so, I will definitely pass on putting one in the xb.

I thought I had heard that the fidanza flywheel was extremely well balanced, but wasn't sure.

 

I have a competition clutch 9.5 pound flywheel and zero chatter

 

If you are going the boosted route don't get a light flywheel they do more harm then good, when shifting gears boost will drop even if minimal

 

So, I just ordered a fidanza based on many peoples positive reviews. Hopefully no chatter when letting off the throttle on the highway....(I drive 50-100 miles highway every day).

 

i have the fidanza on my tc and it has chatter. not too horrible though
