I can get one for $600 with under 80K miles, the problem is, I can get it in Florida... and then ship it for more than the engine is worth.



I've been on Ebay, Craigslist, and half a dozen other sites... the deals are out there, but finding one nearby is nearly impossible.

 

Patience grasshopper LOL. If you can keep your eyes peeled you'll find one. I recommend looking for a bottom end and having your friend's cylinder head reconditioned. I know how being on budget is in these poor economic times is it's bad for us. Try to find someone who can run you down to florida to get the motor or just
keep checking this site for your best bet. I got a fully built motor for an insanely low price but that's thanks to GOD.

 

Make sure you guys have back-up money for any oh **** issues. I got fired so now my built motor is just sitting in my garage waiting.

 

It seems like re-building that motor would be extremely expensive... is it different as far as time for a completed bottom end?


And does anyone have a lead on said engine anywhere near Roanoke, Virginia?

first off you need to relax. All your post seem super frantic and panic.

Dude its just a car. If 1500 for a engine is to expensive, GOD willing you have (hoping) insurance Full Coverage. Put a claim in. Pay your deductible which shouldn't be more then 800 bucks. if not umm yeah remember these quotes bud. "You Pay for what you get" "Cheap ish comes out to be more expensive at the end". Engines are not cheap but sometimes you find amazing deals just have to be relax and wait.

 

Freight should not be more than $150-200. Ive had several engines shipped from up to 3-4 states away and its always about the same price.

 

Hmmm- do you mean the crack, or the clogged oil system? There was very little oil in the engine/pan, so it wasn't a clog but an actual loss (I guess from burning? But we don't know). As far as a crack, I suppose it is possible, but there was no visible oil on the ground or engine bay.



Does anyone have a shop they have purchased engines from before they could recommend for a good price? And as a side note... how much is the scrap from the old engine worth, considering the aluminum?

 

I installed an 08' engine in my 06' tC, only thing I had to do was to swap the engine harness and I liked the intake manifold on the 08' better. Other than that it was a swap out affair. Anything from 05' to 10' (first gen) will work. I paid about $700 for it with just a lil over 13k.

Look junkyards and restoration shops, I got mine from a body/restoration shop. Car was totaled and they part it out, I was even able to run the engine before I bought it.

 

i don't mean for this to come off as a stupid question or anything, but did you put any more oil in to try and find out the culprit?

 

Hahaha... we added more oil, which was enough to bring out the rod rattle. The engine sounds terrible- well, what is left of it, anyway.

Here is my situation!

I have a 2006 Scion TC.
The headgasket leaking in the rear.
I pulled the engine and transmission.
I found a doner car.. a late Model 06.I guess considered an 07.
This engine ran fine and trans shifted smooth. I was a wrecked car.
I done a complete engine swap and trans swap with the harness etc still connect etc.
I found that the only difference is the MAF plug in.
I used the MAF from the new engine. Because it had a cold air intake. So I couldn't use the old maf because it wasn't the right connector on the harness..so i'm stuck with the COLD air intake.
I tried to start the car...it does nothing but turns over and over.
I swapped the ECU from the doner car to the 2006 Tc, and it tried to fire...then it dropped off.
I'm at a loss...HELP PLEASE.

 

Hey idk if you still check the thread or no but did you ever figure out or fixed the problem???
I have 2005 tc and i swapped the engine with an 09 but i swapped the harness to original 05 and the car start and drive but i get a rattle at about 2500rpms

 

How hard is it to swap the harness I’m putting a 05 motor into a 2010 car hope you still see this
