Default Royal Purlple transmission fluid...

Thanks to the Instigator for giving me the extra push I needed to flush my tranny fluid after quite a bit of track abuse.

Needless to say I switched out the fluid and the difference really is night and day. The car shifts smoother than it ever did stock, and it resulted in MUCH more consistant times at the track. I was within 1 tenth of a second in all 7 runs tonight at the track in the 1/8th mile. I'm already hitting 4th in the 1/8th mile so quick and consistant shifts are a must.

I'm posting this because I had no luck finding Redline tranny fluid at the 6 places I went to in my area. The locals all preferred Royal Purple so I gave in and gave it a shot. I am very happy with the results and at 10 bucks a qt you can't go wrong.

You only need just under 3qt's to fill it up, as said earlier.

As for re-filling... I opted to not use the reverse sensor hole. I stuck with the OEM front bolt hole to fill it up. I used a LONG black funnel and attache a rubber hose to it. From the top of the engine bay I dumped in the 3qts and let the excess drip into the catch can waiting below. Worked great and in 20 min it was done.

If you want pics of the funnel setup let me know but I think it's pretty self explanatory.

NOTE: Anyone that does any spirited driving or racing should do this upgrade. I can vouch that it does make a big difference in driveability and makes the car much more enjoyable to drive. I can actually get into first gear while slowly rolling again!

so wait did you actually have the tranny flushed or did you just drain the old fluid and put the new fluid in?

Default Royal Purple

So Synchromax is THE tranny fluid to use for a tC? I was going to post something about it.. but Im glad I searched first... I knw how people like to kill people on here for asking questions that have already been answered. Ive been wanting to try out Royal Purples line of products... I just didnt know what to get. Do you know if you can use their ATF for the power steering?

ok so you drained out the tranny completely.. then when you started to pour in the new one, once you started seeing the new fluid drain from the bottom thats when you plugged it on the bottom and then stoped also at the top correct?

That is definately a good option to pull. I honestly had the car jacked up for abotu 2 weeks so I left it uncapped on the bottom to just let all the old stuff drip out. When it was time to drive the car again I plugged the bottom and topped off.

As an update...

The fluid definately doesn't last as long as I'd expected... Granted I push the car quite hard, it's already starting to shift rough again in 3rd gear. I think it's a sign of my synchros going downhill. I'll probably be flushing the fluids again soon.

-Not sure about the ATF steering fluid, I haven't really looked into that.

I started a post in the maintenance & car care forum asking something similar a couple of days ago but have yet to get any responses.

that was good that you couldnt find the redline oil!! I had redline MT-90 before when i installed my fx400 clutch and flywheel and i tell yah, it feels the same as the factory oil IMO (choppy)...it didnt make any difference at all...i actually thought that it was the clutch and flyhweel being new (had hard time shifting). so i waited and break it in...500miles after, still the same. And when i tried and changed into Royal Purple Synchromax...wow BIG difference! shifting is easier. a lot smoother, like what you said, i can put it in 1st gear while car is slowly rolling. i recommend royal purple over redline...you will waste your money on redline. im not bashing on redline, but hey im letting you know my experience

I also have royal purple 10W-30 engine oil. engine is noticeably quieter, smoother. also i noticed the exhaust is not as loud as before. But again, its 10w-30, its thicker oil, so this could be the same as the rest of 10w-30 oil.
